NOTE: As you can see from the number of comments for this post, there are a lot of us who are looking for (and want to share) information and experiences about various schools. In order to try structure these information better, my some of us (who share a similar need) came together to put up - Zeeksha; Zeeksha provides information and reviews about schools and pre-schools in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad. We will continue to include different schools from these 4 cities now, and go on to include schools from other cities in the future. All of you are requested to use the features and forums at Zeeksha to keep the conversation about schools going. We would love to hear from you on how we can do a better job there. Thank you! ![]()

Ah-ha! Good to see my school top the list under the heading “Other Convent Schools”
So, how’ve you’ve been? Here’s wishing you all the very best during the new year 2007!
Cheers!
Hi Chitra…. Just popped by when I saw this post…… The timestamp is wrong. It should have been 1st jan not feb
You seem to be running fast dear
www.withacupofcoffee.wordpress.com
nice effort!!
btw, this posts shows date as Feb 01,2007… and for rest of the world it is still Jan 2007.
Ravi, been alright. Please check your email. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead as well.
Coffee, I have been having tons of issues with blogger. Just doesn’t let me post! And when I managed to post this, I wasn’t sure which date format I was supposed to do for Jan 2nd on blogger. Anyway, now I managed to change that. Thanks!
Rajesh, welcome to my blog. I have been a big fan of your blog, but have never manged to leave a comment ‘coz of all my Internet issues. Great job there.
Thats why I shifted from blogger to wordpress!!!!! I was having a tough time there. And with my food blog on, the amount of time it used to take me to upload the pics was like!!!!!!!!! So I shifted all my posts and comments to wordpress. And now I am more than relaxed :)))
An informative compilation. There are quite a number of schools here, almost in all areas. Thus it shouldn’t be difficult… I did a similar hunt when came here from Hyd in 1999.
Thanks for the suggestion Coffee. Right now, I think the problem is with my Inet connection. I am comfortable with Blogger, however I will check out Wordpress.
Pradeep, that is true. There are truck loads of schools. I tried to list out a few that are really sought after, and some old convents that have been around for a while. Otherwise, every area has many varieties of schools.
Went through all your posts and loved them. We , as in me and the husband keep arguing with our friends who have settled abroad on the merits of being in this country despite it’s so many apparent negatives. .. and friends feel we are really stupid to let go of good job opportunities for the life here.

But, we are happy and content.
Minal, welcome to my blog. I am glad you are happy and content here. After all, that’s what matters at the end of the day.
Also, very good job opportunities are available here now. In fact, India seems to be the most happening place in many different ways.
BTW, my intention is not to promote living here or even to relocate here. I am just penning my experiences. I loved living in Calif too.
PS: You are welcome to invite your friends to contribute their points of view in my blog.
Hi Chitra,
u might want to check out this site for contact details –http://www.schoolsindia.com
Any idea on the correct age for LKG admissions. Next year my daughter will be 3yrs 8ths as on June 1st, will i have to wait for another year to admit her to LKG?
And yes, the eurokids post was very helpful.
Cheers,
Rashmi
Rashmi, welcome to my blog. I have visited sites that list school information etc. Unfortunately, these sites are not updated and hence do not carry current contact info. I have tried to provide info that I know are correct, especially the phone numbers.
Yes, I think your daughter will be able to go to LKG only in ‘09. I am glad the Eurokids review helped.
Hi guys,
Can sombody throw some light for pre schools in the malleshwaram ,rajajinager area for 2 1/2 yr olds.
Thanks
what about DPS East Bangalore , along Sarjapur Road?
Anon, welcome to my blog. Please see my post on pre-schools. Maybe, something there will fit your needs.
Anon 2, recently my hub mentioned DPS East to me. Thanks for the reminder. Let me add it quickly to the list.
Any feedback on Little Feat Montissori? Also, how does PSBB (Padma Seshadri Bal Bhavan) compare to NPS?
Anon, welcome to my blog. Unfortunately, I do not have anwsers to your questions. I do not know Little Feet Montessori. Nor do I know enough about PSBB or NPS to comment. The only thing is Bangalore has had NPS for a long time and PSBB is fairly new here. NPS has done well for many years. However, PSBB has been doing well in Chennai for many years too.
how accommodating are the big school are far as late admissions are concerned…we are moving into banglore only in april…do you think the schools will relent…
what’s your take on the brigade school?
Welcome to my blog, Gazal. I am not sure I know Brigade school.
I know that some schools do relent and accept late admissions as long as they meet the child. Depending on where you are going to be, you can check with the schools that will work for you and your child/ren.
I know that Brigade schools said the last date for accepting applications are over, but we had someone who lives there hand over our application to the school, but they will not comment further or act upon it until we show up there. We downloaded the application and sent it over to our people to give it to the school. AS far as I know they are accepting applications. But we are not sure if our kid will get admitted there.
Hello Chitra,
Great Compilation - I was absolutely in the dark till I saw your website.
I live in Fremont CA, USA and am trying relocating to India for a few months to see if it will pan out.
I am relocating to Bannerghatta road close to L&T South City and am looking for a school for my child who is 3 yrs 6 months now (born Nov 1 2003).
Can he join LKG this summer - June 07? Or does he have to wait one more year?
Also, I am a resident of chennai. I need some help finding a good pre- / school. Can you suggest some schools near L&T city?
thanks so much,
charu
Hi Chitra,
What do you think of Mark Global School?
Have you heard of this school? How is it?
thanks,
charu
Hello All,
This is Sachin and Rachna: We have 2 year old twins who have just started to go to a play home in Indiranagar. I would like to be an active member of this blog.
Charu, welcome to my blog. I am terribly sorry for having missed your comments! I am afraid your son is going to have to wait another year to join LKG. Typically they want the child to have completed 4 as of Jun 1st to start LKG.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with that area too much to suggest good pre-schools. I am afraid, I haven’t heard of Mark Global school either. Please let me know if you need any other info.
Sachin, welcome to my blog.
Hi Chitra,
Did you get my emails at all? Could you post any information you might have about dual US/India citizenship (or OCI) and any implications this might have for the kids’ education - especially higher education. I’m sure this is a concern of many R2I parents.
Hi,
I love this blog site…very very informative. I have 2 kids of my own and am planning to R2I by the end of next year. The information about schools in B’lore is very useful and is something that i had been looking for. I have seen different schools mentioned here except for Clarence High school near East station. It would be great if you guys can provide your comments and suggestions about Clarence High School. Thank You in advance..

smitha
Hi. can some one pl post reveiws / give feedback on DPS North Bangalore? (pl highligts few good things & bad things about the school) I intend to admit my kid there for KG.
Thanks in advance for your time.
regards,
Jai
DPS is a average school. The campus is nice and huge- what impresses you most- the space and the green.
The principal ( Mrs Syal) is reasonable and understanding.
The teaching and teachers are average( nursery, KG)- no exceptional dedication or enthusiasm, which is disapppointing when kids move from play schools to a regular school.
Kids do lot of activity based learning in kindergarten.
Parents SHOULD interact with the teacher and inform of their childs requirements.
Bus service is reasonable…( some safety issues are there).
Bus fees is more than the tuition fees.Systems are in place as far as functioning of the school is concerned.
Overall a good school
Hello Preeti,
Thanks for the quick response.
I heard that students here grow headstrong & with ‘attitude’…also that its only for upper-middle class families.. Is this true?
Could you pl suggest some good schools in Bangalore North.
Best Regards,
Jai
Hi Preeti ,
your comment really scares me to put my child in DPS. Iam planning to put my child in DPS to LKG.Just wanted to know that is it a worth for the money we pay ..are the kids academically oriented ..will there be any effect in the attitude of kids as they grow up (like attitude problems)
Hi:
Not sure about what you found scary in my comment.
I think DPS-North is a good school and parents should keep their aspirations at a realistic level. Academics and extra curricular seems balanced out.
If you are globally travelled, you would prefer an international school.
Attitude- not sure if students would have attitude problems.
It is not DPS RK Puram - there they have attitude…not here..
Hi, Chitra, I am in CA Sunnyvale and I am planning to r2bangalore. I have a son needs to be in 4th grade and a daughter needs to be in ukg in the coming academic year. i applied for national public school in koramangla . They are asking us to come to india to take the entrance test. We all three can’t just travel that long for that time. My son will be having star tests here at that time. So, any suggestions how to get seats there without coming to india?

Mansi
hi
chitra thanks for all the blogs, info et al.me & my wife recently discovered your blog and are enjoying reading it, learning from everybody’s experiences and boosting our confidence.
we intend to r2i in may 08 and need to find a school for my son 5 yr old in hebbal/rt nagar/rmv area.dont need a fancy expensive school, any reccomendations?
does anyone have any info/opinion on daffodils english school or vidyaniketan?
thanks
I would like to get ffedback on Gear International & Vibgyor High schools. Also any idea about NPS HSR layout?
Hi sathyaveni, welsome to my blog. Unfortunately, if you are particular about NPS, then I don’t think there is anyway of getting in without coming here and taking the tests.
manjunath S, welcome to my blog. I am not sure I know enough about Ryan to comment about the school.
Mansi, welcome to my blog. Inventure is a new school with fabulous infrastructure. But the school is still new. So, it will be hard to comment about the school. Also, I havent heard anything from the parents there too. However, NPS is everything that they claim to be. They deliver very fine kids at the end of 10th/12th. NPS kids are pretty all-rounded and having firm footing in academics. In fact, I happened to run into a teacher who teaches at one of the international schools in Bangalore and she couldn’t stop talking about all the NPS schools and their teachers. She only had good things to say about NPS< in general. Also, NPS parents are some of the happiest with the schools and their activities. To the best of my knowledge, there is really no pressure at age 6. I hope this helps.
Sid, welcome to my blog. Since your boy is 5 yrs old, I am guessing you ar elooking for UKG and further. Vidya Sagar in Bhoopasandra is very good, from what I hear, and the child will go to Vidya Niketan or Vidya Shilp for 1st standard. And all three schools are accessible from Bellary road. Your other options are Presidency school in RT. Nagar. ICSE syllabus. Daffodils/Florence are in Sanjaynagar and offer ICSE syllabus as well. I haven’t heard raving reviews about these 3 though. There is also Navkis school off of the ring road near BEL. Again ICSE syllabus. And of the lot the Vidya Sagar/Niketan/Shilp would win hands down! But, if you are returning only in May, it may be a little late to get school admissions considering how all the schools are pretty much done with the admission process.
What you can consider doing is to send your boy to a pre-school for UKG and try Vidya Niketan at the end of the year for next year’s first standard. Pl feel free to ask any questions.
Ruchi, welcome to my blog. I don’t know enough about Gear or Vibgyor to comment.
Hi guys …i wud like to know which place has good schools is it somewhere nr Bansankri 6th stage or Ullal village nr Mysore Magdi road . since i hav plot in this area…i am confused which is better place to build my home. Also i am new to Blor.

Could you please let me know how good the Ryan Internation school is. I am staying near Yelahanka, and this school has good campus.

Prakash
Hi Chitra,
Could you provide me any information about Geethanjali Vidyalaya school in kaggadaspura?
Thanks
The quality of teaching in RYAN is coming down. The class strength is more, that also increases every year.Every year teachers are moving out and everything is going wrong there.
Could you provide us good convent school lists in bangalore preferabaly in and around Vijayanagar ,Bangalore-40
Upfront thanks to this info !
Do you have any opinion on Shindhi HIgh School ?
hello chitra,
Its great to see a useful, quality site. Congrats.
I am likely to return to India by Jun2009. I am going on a vacation to India. will it be a good idea to visit KVs,Padmaseshadri,Kumarans or any good school and request them to add my son’s name in the admission list now itself. My son will be 5 by march 2008. are schools generally accomadative if we return after the admissions are over?
hi,
i and kids just r2bangalore . I am intrested in frachising a branded preschool. Would u know how good is Applekids preschool in bangalore. Its salem based and have quite a few branches. Would want to know negative and positive aspects of starting a normal preschool versus being a franchisee,
Many thanks, and keep up the good work in this blog.
Hi,
I am new to this blog.
I have few questions about KG and montessori admission in bangalore
1) At what age we should start looking for admission?
Which is better montessori or KG-1 in any good school ( I guess this is LKG?)
2) Is it better to send the kid to small montessori and then shift to a good school? I heard admission at 1st class is difficult..
3) Should I directly admit the kid for KG-1 in any reputed school? I hope then the kid can continue his studies from 1st std onwards from the same school. so not much admission issues.
Thanks
ronith
Raji, thanks! I am not sure I know enough about the said neighborhoods. But, I do know that Banashankari has some good schools.
Sid/Padma, I have only heard raving reviews aboit Gaia pre-school. It would be worth your while to call them and check. I think
Prakash, of late I have heard some not-so- great reviews about Ryan international. Please check the no.of students they have in each class before proceeding. If it is crowded, do think twice.
Prathi, I havent heard of the said school. Sorry.
Shashidhar, I don’t think I know of any in that neighborhood.
Sivabalan, Sindhi High School has been around for a while and would like a typical older school. So, the no.of students per class would be fairly high and the infrastructure would be about average.
A, first off all the best with your plans. Bangalore can always accommodate a good school
I am not sure I know enough about Applekids.
Right off, I can think of a few pros and cons of starting a franchisee. Being part of a franchisee makes the running and starting of one fairly easily. Most of them help you set it up and you aso get trained teachers, I think. And it is easy for people to identify with your pre-school if they are familiar with the brand. However, that can also be a minus. What if the brand gets some bad name because of somebody else’s doing. You will have to bear the brunt too. And you have only a certain amount of say in the matter of your own school.
Starting your own will pose the initial daunting task of getting people familiar with your “name”. But, the good thing, people are ALWAYS on the lookout for a pre-school and if you setup a nice clean bright place, you will win instantly have a few customers. Then of course you must find really good people to work for/with you. People who will be kind and enthusiastic about working with young kids. But, if you are kicked about doing this and are willing to put in sincere efforts, I would think starting something on your own will eventually be a good thing.
Ronith, kindergarten and montessori are good in their own ways. Montessori if your child is more free-spirited and cannot get used to the more rigid kindergarten. But for that, I think both are good. My children have been to both and have done well in both the atmospheres.
Your child must be 3 to start montessori and 4 to start LKG (KG 1).
Some reputed schools offer you both kindergarten and montessori. So, the admission process would be a one time affair either way.
Feel free to post your questions, if you have any.
Hi Chitra
My kid completes 2.3 as of June 2008. I am located in RT Ngr. I was not aware of this yearly birt admissions at sept/nov.
First I was undecided on ICSE, CBSE issue. So when I knocked the doors of Vidya Sagar (targetting Vidya Niketan) as potential school fo rmy kid, I was told that thier PreSchool admissions were closed last nov (ooops..for even pre school)
So our doors for Vidya Niketan is virutally closed ( reesponses we got - we can put u beon wait list, but done hope for anything….or try for pre - kg next year but you wont get …cause we absorb our pre school)
Then after much of debate, I decided to drop ICSE. And settle for CBSE.
So in North I dont know of any CBSE other than Sindhi High.
Are there any other CBSE options in North?
Now that I have till september to worry about it, now comes the more burning issue
Which pre school to put him in?
I dropped EuroKids option after your review (thanks). Also dropped Shemrock,FunnLearn, and numerous others based on neighbours feed back.
So I was left with VSagar & Gaia in RTNgr and few others in central area. Vsagar is out of reach. Now I need to check if Gaia is good. Do you have any feedback on Gaia?
Thanks a Ton!
Sivabalan, yes the admission process does finish up pretty early and one must practically plan one’s life around it.
Though, it is generally belived that if you miss out on pre-school admissions, you can’t get it later, one of my friends managed to get her son admitted into 1st std at Niketan without much of a hassle. So, there is that too.
From what I hear, Gaia is very good. And since you live in RT nagar, it kind of becomes the default choice, IMHO. I have had some extremely happy paretns who sent their wards to Gaia.
CBSE schools in North - All the kendriya vidyalayas. Hmmm, I don’t think I know of any other. Will let you know if I do find other CBSE schools.
Any reason why you decided on CBSE?
Thanks Chitra!
Yes lots of KVs around. But the ones that admin the civiians are two. One in malleshwaram and the other in Yeshwantpur. The list that allows civilians is available at the KV site. Again in those 2 KVs priority is given for Central gvt emp/State gvt emp/Defence personnel/ and so on. There is a eight category which states others. And I also assume that its the order of priority. So the chance of getting into a KV is slim. And the one in Malleshwaram starts at Grade2.
Ill pen down my view of ICSE vs CBSE ( some of them my own and most of them from friends who made thier decisions on ICSE vs CBSE). Will also include the poor state syllabus
State Board (atleast KA & TN)
Academic oriented. Stuffy on theory
Does not initiate pupils towards problem solving/thinking mode
Good for students targetting state entrnace exams, because the entrance is designed around this syllabus
—————————————-
CBSE
Lighter academic/theotical stress (comapred to State & ICSE )
All central exams (IIT,AIIMS) designed around this syllabus
Stress on maths & sciences
Hones the pupil towards thinking/problem solving methodology
Tough to switch to ICSE at higher levels
——–
- Atleast i have seen professionals from both CBSE & State. And by large, CBSE guys were good thinkers. If a state syllabus guy looked good, then its probably by his own merit or something he developed by himself
Also I should add that I dont know much about its neg’s
ICSE
Universally compatible. Atleast among common wealth countries. So if reloacting in the middle of school or trying for under-grad aborad, its good
ICSE guys can easiliy switch to CBSE
Heavy language loads. I dont know how to quantify it., I guess its like more of shakespeare kind of stuff. In general its like a course desgined for english speaking natives
Less stress and matsh & science. Again its hearsay. Dont know how to quantify
Syllabus not so good fit for central entrance exams
More atypical courses like home science, aggri, fashion design etc (http://www.icseguess.com/syllabus/syllabus_for_icse_2009.php)
Good for Kids creativity due to exposure to atypical courses
——-
So why did I choose CBSE
). I want him to decide what he wants to do. But I think he should be a good thinker/problem solver irrepsective of what he chooses to do
———————————–
I dont want my kid to crack IIT (or AIIMS
Expsoure to atypical courses (in ICSE) will help him to see beyond engineering and medicine. But that can be supplemented by soft coaching from parents. Because its not that neccesary at school level. So stress on maths & science.
ALL SAID … THIS IS MY CURRENT STATE …
Hi,
I am relocating to bangalore. My girl was born on 2 Jul 2003. Want recommendation of schools in east or south bangalore (and maybe cost of admission, if possible).
Primary information is whether it’s too late now as admissions might be closed. Any schools which can still accept kids.
Or else, do schools take transfer of kids at this level - then i can plan to delay my shifting for 3 months. In my native, my kid is getting admission in 1st class (Exception) - Don’t know Bangalore school age norms.
Please advise.
Hi, We are moving to Bngalore next month and trying for admission for my son in Vidya Sagar in RMV 2nd Stage and we are also looking for admissions in Kangaroo Kids . Please let me know how the schools are.
Hi,
We are relocating to Bangalore. We are interested in NPS, Rajajinagar for our kid who would be 6 years old for the academic year 2008-09 Could somebody throw us some light on the admission test at NPS. What are the topics that the kid is tested on? Does the duration of the time taken by the candidate matter in determining the kid’s abilities?
Thanks in advance,
Suma
Hi, Chitra,
Plz can u help me some good CBSE schools in and around malleshwaram as i am staying in malleshwaram.
Thanks for your thoughts, Sivabalan. I am sure I will have to write a post about the diff boards and compare them as well.
Nupur at your child’s age, she will get into UKG in some schools and only into LKG in the others. IMHO, I think UKG would be the best fit. Unfortunately, all admission processes here are mostly complete. Lots of good schools in East and South. All the best with your move.
Suma, I do not know much about the admission tests there. The best would be for you to call the school and check.
Rajeshwari, NPS Rajajinagar would be your best bet. KV Malleswaram would be the other choice. Hope this helps.
Hi, My daughter is 2 years 5 months for April, and i stay in Bangalore north. She goes for playhome nearby. Need some help regarding PreKG. when should i admit her, preferably vidyasagar and presidency school. I dont have any idea about anything. Please help me.
Thanx Jaya
Hi!
I am confused. I am not able to decide where to put my son …in KV malleswaram or KV hebbal
Jaya. I stay at Blore.North
I guess yourkid is eligible for Nursery\PreKG as of this June. (some schools take 2.6, others 2.10 and 3) Pls check this point
If you kid is eligible for PreKG, you might already be late to catch the wagon.
Vidya sagar takes admission from pre-school. the admissions close by Nov. They say that they dont accept admissions in PKG/LKG/UKG. But they do take the name for waiting list. But still it would be too late now. Call them and check right now!
Sindhi High, starts from PreKG. Thier admissions close by Jan as well. But it may not be too late and you can give a try. (CBSE)
Am not aware of Presidencies position.
Btw, can you let us know where you send your kid fo rplay school and also your expereince at this play school.
Tks
Raji
Are you serious about KV?
KV malleshwaram starts from 2 std and KV hebbal from 1 std. You can visit thier site to get all info you want.
Are you aware that the public quota in KV’s are too small ( around 5% ). You can see that by yourself at KV hebbals site.
However if you fall into the priority category its a differnt story.
Also I heard from a friend, that even for publics, recommendation from high Army officers is required. Note it is not mandatory, but only that can get you into the public quota for KV (from a reliable friend). Also there is foul play in this recommendation. (like bribery etc…so no need to get worked up). Its just that you need to know some one very high up in the defense services…
Let me know if you have other info
CORRECTION on previous post
what i meant to say is
Also there is ** NO **foul play in this recommendation. ie no bribary involved, ..but just should know someone higher up
Jaya, like Sivabalan said you are a little late for admissions in VidyaSagar. Typically schools finish with their admission process in Nov/Dec. Please check out this post on Gaia in RT Nagar. I think it is worth a try. http://r2blore.chitra-aiyer.com/2008/03/gaia-preschool-and-childcare-center.html
All the best.
Raji, I do not enough to have an opinion. I hope Sivabalan’s response helps you.
Sivabalan, many thanks!
Thanks for your time and your willingness to help others.
Thanx a lot Sivabalan n Chitra for helping me. I did call Vidya Sagar and have enrolled her name, but as u said, the admissions were over and they said, if any kid drops out, will consider urs, but not sure. I will try Gaia and Sindhi as recommended by u. Again i really appreciate, Sivabalan, taking time and ur willingness to help
I will keep updating about my decision.
Thanx Jaya
Chitra, Jaya
Please dont mention it.
Honestly I was confounded to find out that in this info age, there are very meagre or no info on net for bangalore schools. I was not able to get a site that would give feed back.
And luckily I found that Chitra’s blog is one great source of information (honestly).
My son starts pre-school this June. I had to visit every preschool in and around our area to find out what they are…
I just thought Ill post my experiences here so that the info gets consolidated for others..to get used.
Chitra, I have visted and have some feedbacks on few more play schools in RT nagar and Cunningham Road. If you are willing I can post them here. Pls let me know which blog to use. Altrernatively I can send them to you can you can organize appropriately
Chitra has written a nice review here and I too wrote one on my blog a year ago on what challenges I faced when I moved to Bangalore.
I realized we needed a platform to discuss bangalore schools and rate them if possible, encourage discussions.
That is why I started http://www.bangaloreschools.net
Please feel free to visit it and share your joys and agonies on schools in Bangalore so others can learn from you.
Chitra, I would appreciate if you covered the site on your blog.
Thanks,
Vikas Sah

Hi Chitra,
I came across your blog looking for good schools in Bangalore. Thanks a lot for this compiled list. I am adding the same in my forum to help other members. You are welcome to join my Inidan parenting Forum at http://parentingforum.kidsandbibs.in

Actually it,s very late in admision procedure in case of my son because of transfer problem so private schools were closed it before 2 months ago and public schools too but i want send my son in CBSE school for LKG if any body having any ideas please contact “kundakasurde@gmail.com”
Hi Chitra,
I really loved all the information on this blog!!!
We r moving back to Blore in June and really excited abt it!
I wanted to know if u have some inputs on Gear School near Sarjapur , my kids will be joining this school in july.
Thanks for all the info!!
ajitha:)
Hi Chitra,
Thanks for all the good information. I have the following scenario and questions. If you or anyone answer to these, it will be a great help. Please reply even if it something to suggest.
My son is born in Dec 2004, so I believe he will be eligible to go to 1st grade in 2011 (pls. correct me if I am wrong!). We plan to return to India (Bangalore) when he starts his 1st grade. We don’t know which area in Bangalore we will be living, but we would want to put him into a school nearby where we live. Now my questions are:
1. Is it any easier getting admission if we return one year early for his UKG? Or is it the same? We are thinking we probably want to put him into a school which has at least up to 10th grade (or good if available up to 12th grade)
2. How many months in advance or which month of 2010/11 we should plan on returning? Of course, we and my son as well need time to settle down, so I am sure we would want to have some 2-3 months time before school starts. But what about the admission? Can we secure it from here? If we return too early, I am thinking he will miss his KG class.
3. This year (2008) end we will be visiting India. Is there any chance of securing his admission for 1st grade (commencing in 2011) in any school? I am thinking… in case if we settle on some area where we will be living.
I may be doing some business or something from home, but my husband would be looking for a job. Ideally we would like to have his workplace, our son’s school and our residence (renting to begin with) all nearby. But nothing will be known in advance… though we know we want to return then for sure, we can’t plan anything… I go nuts thinking about this (At least we know we want to return to Bangalore!) Any suggestions for planning purpose???
Thanks so much.
Uma
Hello,
Does anyone have an opinion about Lord Krishna International School in Banashankari? I heard some good reviews from (biased) folks but curious if anyone has a view..
Thanks!
Hello Chitra, I came across your blog looking for good schools in Bangalore. Thanks a lot for this compiled list, it is quite helpful.
We plan to move to Bangalore in May 09. My daughter will be 4 years and 9 months next June (09). I believe she will have to go to LKG. Is that right? or can she get admission in UKG?
She goes to Montessori here in US.
Also can you please tell me when do the admissions for kindergarten start and when do they end?
Thanks
Manjushree
Hi,
Could someone tell me about Inventure academy. How good is this school both from academic/ personality development perspective?. The Fee structure seems to be at higher end ( more than 1 lakh starting from KG-1). Really want to know is it worth paying such high fees?
Dear Shivabalan
thank you…. i ut my son in KV hebbal…. i feel u can get admission easily without any reference… anyway i got it becos my husband was in the army (oficer)….. i just wanted to know… where to ut him….
Hi,
My son is 2 years 8 months old and I am looking for a montessori in Indiranagar and HAL 2nd stage. I have zeroed in on “Prarambha Montessori” as I got a good feedback from one of the parents. Anyone having any info on that play home, can be please mail it to me?
Thanks!!
hi everybody,
Can anybody help in the following queries. I have 2 daughters one in 2nd std npw and another in kg2. Next year i am planning to relocate to blore sanjaynagar area. Right now they are in cbse syallbus. Can i change to icse? If so i am terribly confused. Can anyone help in giving feedback about the schools around including daffodils and the school results… they are born on 11th september 2001 and 29th september 2003 respectively. Can u please give me a feedback on this? thanks in advance
Dear Chitra,
We are returning to India, Mumbai this August and I am really in intense dilemma. I do not know which board to choose from IGCSE, CBSE,ICSE,IB,etc,. for my child who will be going to Grade 4. The Indian system of studies will be new for him. He is not used to mugging and wrting too much rather a practical approach is used here for teaching. All the more i know he won’t be happy to read and write Hindi since he hasn’t learnt it from childhood. I am really puzzled what to do? Which school to choose? I won’t like him to end up muging lessons rather would like him to learn concepts and technicalities more.
Hi folks, firstly I havent been able to respond to the comments because we have been very busy this summer.
So, here goes. Better late than never.
Jaya, good to know that some of the recos from here helped. Let us know when your daughter gets an admission.
Sivabalan, many thanks!
I will email you about the other schools that you have info on. Stragnely enough, I am seeing this comment of yours only now!
You are welcime, Asha.
Kunda, all NPSes and DPSes are CBSE schools that also offer LKG. Yes, it is very late now for admissions. Do let us know if anything worked out for you.
Yes, Uma, your son will go to 1st std in 2011. Admissions are the easiest for LKG when all seats are available. After that, the seats are available according to differnet criteria, like some children leaving the school and hence creating openings etc. The next stage would be at standard 1, when some schools open up more sections creating more seats. So, if he starts 1st std in 2011, then oct 2010 is when u can start trying for admissions. And by then, maybe you will have a better idea about where you are going to be. The admissions process is exclusive to each school and one cannot arrive at a typical process that will apply to all schools. So, what I suggest is when you know the area you are going to be in, you can ask your friends/relatives here to scout for good schools and them to buy forms from those schools. You can then call the schools up and talk to them to see how they can go about with your son’s admission. Doing that in 2008 maybe impossible. Since, schools tend to do only admissions for the next academic year.
Chin up.
And as far as going ‘nuts’, don’t worry. Typically, things tend to fall in place. It is when a lot of the parameters are ambiguous that it gets to be mind-boggling. But, over a period of time, when you get clarity about some of the parameters, everything will become easier.
Resin, nope no input from my side. I dont know the school.
Manjushree, yes looks like LKG will be a good fit for her. Admissions will be from this Oct. You can ask your friends/relatives here to look for good schools and ask them to buy forms from those schools. It is very likely that they can scan the forms and send them to you and you can fill them up and send it to the schools.
Ronith, I have heard good things about Inventure Academy. It is a new school, so you do not have a track record to go by. But, the parents who send their kids there seem to be happy and I have seen the campus. It is pretty good. Just that it is pretty far from the city.
Raji, good to know.
And thanks for keeping us posted.
Jyothi, I do not know of Prarambha. I hope you got reviews from folks who send their kids there.
Poornima, most of the schools in the sanjaynagar neighboorhood are ICSE schools. The only CBSE schools would be the NPS in Rajajinagar and the KV schools in Hebbal, Mekhri circle, and Malleswaram. Your kids are still young and I think moving into ICSE may not be too much of a problem. The ICSE schools that are in Sanjaynagar are alright. Not great, but not bad. Hope this helps.
Niti, since your child is slightly older and since he has already gone to school in the US, IB or IGCSE would be a better option. But the best thing would be for you to check with parents in Mumbai about schools there and ask them for their opinions. These days, a lot of the good schools in India too use differnet approaches to teach instead of asking kids to do by rote. Going to ICSe or CBSE will require him to learn an Indian language and come upto speed with the rest of the class. You are likely to not have this issue with and IB/IGCSE school syllabus. And in IGCSE schools, he may feel at home, since the syllabus is like in the US schools.
Dear ma’m,
I am just now saw your blog. Please permit me to join with u.
My daughter is now in Ist Std (promoted from UKG under montessori scheme). In her school both montessori and CBSE schemes are available for Ist std.
Her teacher says montessori is a little bit ahead of CBSE.
Please enlighten me which is better?
Hi Chitra,
My 5 year son goes to Ryan now and is in Mont 3. I also have a 3 year old son who goes to Kidzee now. I am not too happy with Ryan and am planning to put him in a better school next year. We stay on the K.R Puram Marathahalli outer ring road. Do you know of shcools which are in that area and which would accept students to 1st standard next year.
Thanks in advance
Elizabeth
I got my son admitted in Vidyasagar in play group. After the very first day at school I decided to not send him there any more. They made my 2.5 year old son stand in front of the urinal and left him there. He was confused as to what he should do since we have trained him in sitting position on a potty. He thought it was a sink of some sort and started touching all over. The urinal had no flush, no water and very poor drainage. And to top it all off, they did not use soap to wash his hands after that! After asking around, I found out that they don’t provide soap to wash hands after the kids have used the bathroom!
This was such a basic sanitation measure that I did not bother to ask about it from other kids who go to Vidyasagar and their parents before deciding to put him there. Now I know better.
If you child is going to Vidyasagar and falling sick regularly, THIS is the reason! In fact other parents told us that we should be prepared for this. I though to myself, how pathetic! Instead of doing something to get the problem solved or pulling their children out of such disgustingly unhygenic environment, the parents just “put up” with this?
Hi,
Could someone provide feedback about GEAR Innovative international school in Sarjapur road?
Sincere feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
ronith
hi, i have a boy who is 1.10 yrs old.i’m looking for a good school around banaswadi-indiranagar-hebbal area for nursery for the next academic yr.i’ve been told that my son is invariably gonna loose a yr as he is aug born.could someone please help me in selecting the right school for him.we have thought of clarence, shishugriha&vidyanikethan.thanks in advance.
Ramkumar, well, that is a tough one since the 2 systems are very different. Does the school have the montessori syllabus till the 10th? Or do they dis-continue after reaching a certain standard?
Elizabath, I am not too sure if I know of schools in that stretch of ring road. But I do know of Gear which is on ORR b/n Marathhalli and Sarjapur road. I cant really recommend it since I do not know enough about the school.
Amit, sorry to hear about your experience. I hope you found another school for your toddler. All the best with everything.
Ronit, Gear is on ORR b/n Marathhalli and Sarjapur road. But I do not know wnough to say anything concrete about the school.
Rashmi, Of the ones you have on the list, I have heard very good reviews from parents whose children go to Sishugriha. Definitely try for admissions there. You can also try the montessori at NPS Indirangar. Hope this helps.
Hi,
Would like to get feedback on DPS East, Srjapur Road. How is DPS schools in general? Thanks
Hi Chitra,
It was informative reading your posts. I am a parent of a 7 year old boy who is moving from the US to Blr. I will be in Koramangala and want to place my son in a school which is:
- academically oriented but doesnt teach by rote method. They allow the child to think and use logic and reasoning as well.
- focuses on sports and other curricular activities as well as academics
- gives my child a good grounded education (surrounded by average middle class students) where he fits in (understands the value of money and doesnt take it for granted)
Do you know of any school in Bangalore where I can get all these three?
Thank you for your time
Kavita
Ronith, DPS East is a new school and if I am not wrong, they started this year. I have heard fairly good reviews about the DPS schools from parents whose children go to DPS North.
Kavita. I am glad the posts are informative. To answer your question, I do not know of any school that will satisfy all your criteria. Schools that do not teach by rote are all mostly the more expensive schools. The expense automatically keeps the average middle class students out.
That said, in Koramangala neighborhood, the school that would satisfy the first 2 criteria is the NPS (Koramangala). Definitely academically oriented, they do not teach by rote, and focus on extra curricular activities as well. The average fees per annum is about Rs. 65, 000/-. The school is very sought after and comes with very good reviews. Admissions are very hard to get. Your son will be eligible for Std 2. Definitely call the school and talk to them.
Thanks much, Chitra! Appreciate it.
Hi Chitra…u r doing gr8 work by giving info thro ur blog which is so usefull for all parents thank -u so much to u n others too who post their info on various school.
Well i wud like to know about Vidya Niketan School (nr Ambedkar Engg.college Kengeri) after Blor university ,how abt extra curricular activities and also wether it is ICSE or CBSE based. Looking forward for reply…thanks in advance
hi chitra, just happened to come across ur blog when i googled abt the schools at bangalore. u have given a lot of info regarding schools. presently we r in US n we r coming back next week for good. we were here for 1 and half year and i did not send my son to any schools. He is now 3 and half years old. I had taken an admission for him last year before leaving US in Ryan International School at bannerghatta rd which is a newer branch. Dont know much about the school, but then blindly admitted him there since its a school from st.xaviers group which is doing really very well in north India and also maharashtra.. when i saw the reviews of the school at bangalore, i felt bad. presently i dont have any choice so i planned to send him to that school. next year iam planning to shift to rajarajeshwarinagar. i some how started liking NPS because of the academics. is the national hill view public school at rajarajeshwarinagar the other branch of NPS?? they also have baldwins school and mount carmel school at rajarajeshwari nagar. which one do you say is better? NPS, baldwins or mountcarmel. iam not able to decide and we have to take this decision by couple of months since the applications will be closed by october end for next academic year. it seems i have heard they are already giving applications for next year. pl advice
Kavitha, you are welcome.
Reji, I know only the Vidya Niketan near Hebbal. I am not familiar with the one near Ambedkar Engg College.
Vidyashree, your best bet is the National Hill View School. I know one mother who had done enough research about the schools in that neighborhood and was very happy with the Hill View and chose that for her son for kindergarten. I havent been to the campus myself, but apparently the campus is also very nice. Applications are typically given out only in October. Not in Jun. Your son will be eligible for LKG starting in 09.
I am not very sure about the Hill View school being under the NPS management. There are some schools that have the NPS tag and may have the NPS management on a consulting basis, but may not really come under the management. The NPS management itself only claims to have these under its management - the NPSes at Rajajinagar, Indiranagar, Koramangala, HSR Layout, and the ones in Chennai and Singapore. NAFL and TISB are also in the NPS family.
ramkumar which school does your child go to?
rashmi i am with u..my son is aug born too adn he has to lose a yr cos of it..short of just a month!!(they take in at 1 yr 10 months..
am lookin for gud schools too around indiranagar area..as we stay on old madras road..i guess banaswadi would also be gud
Hi,
This blog has been good with all the comments and questions..
I have a kid who is going to be 2 years in Jan 2009. I have few questions which has been bothering for a long time.
1. What is the difference between pre-schoold and montessori. I guess it is the same.
2. Can i “TRY” to get my kid admitted in NPS for next year June 2009, when she would be 2.5 years then.
3. When does NPS/Shishu Griha normally give away the application forms?
4. Is there any kind of test for Montessori admission in the above mentioned schools..
5. What is the admission process.
Please help..
Thank you so much!!
Hi Chitra,
One more question is my Kid is born in Jan. most of the schools say the kid shd be 3 by June. In my kids case, it would be 3.5 by June. Will they still allow admission? I just want to be quite clear on the age specifics.. Hence, the concern..
If anybody could clarify..
thanks!
yes i think u shudnt have any probs gettin admission..
your kid would be in nursery..acc to her age
SN ..replyin to ur earlier post where u said ur kid would be 2.5 in june 2009…i dont think NPS would take in..am not sure..i think they take from 3+..
would be helpful if someone cud answer that qn. cos my son would be 2.9 months in june(he is aug born) and was woderin if NPS would mke a little consideration..am thinkin of admittin my older one to UKG around the same time..right now he is goin to LKG in another Preschool
Hi Chitra ,
Can you help me find out reviews about India International school , on Outer ring road. They have a preschool also near Intel on ORR and Main school on Sarjapur side. This will be a great help. Thanks
Swati
myamusingmind@gmail.com
Mush, NPS Indiranagar, SishuGriha, NPS Koramangala would be good choices for you. Also, at NPS, they are not strict about the cut-off date.
SN, No interviews/tests at NPS, Sishugriha for that age. Since your child will be 2.5 yrs old, you can try for Montessori both at Sishu Griha and NPS. There is a diff b/n Montessori and Pre-k. The age-group for joining is the same. But pre-k kids go to kindergarten where as Montessori kids stay on for 3 years in montessori and then go to first std without going to kindergarten. The teaching methodology at montessori is unique and more hands-on. Not very formal. Works better for the free-spirited children who may not do well in a table+chair+uniform atmosphere at that age.
Please remember at 5+ yrs of age, she will be one of the youngest in her class for 1st std. If I were you, I would put her in kindergarten in 2011 when she will be 4+ or try for montessori in 2010 when she will start montessori at 3+ yrs. Being the youngest doesnt matter too much till about the 6th std, but when the pressure builds up later on, it maybe hard on her. Just my 2 cents. Schools typically start giving forms in Oct/Nov. You must keep chking with the schools tho’.
Swati, I have heard good reviews about India international from one parent. I do not know much about the school. The location of the main campus is a little far off. Have you been to the main campus? If not, please go to get an idea of the location.
Hi

hi chitra, thankyou for ur time &help.iwanted some honest reviews abt vidyashilp, as im considering btw vidyashilp &shishugrugha.( clarence is out for me coz of its strength per class)
Hi Chitra
I have been following your posts regarding blore schools. We will be relocating to blore sometime next jan/feb..I have a 5 yr and a 2 yr old. Do you have any info on schools in jp nagar/jayanagar area? As of now, planning to apply in kumarans..i know the admission process starts in nov/dec for most schools. Do they require to see the kid in person before giving admission?
Hi CHitra,
I’ve been going through these posts & they are very informative. Thanks!!!
We will be relocating to India by last week of July 08. My son is Aug born & will be 3 Yrs 9 & 1/2 months by Jun 1. I am interested in putting him to Jyothi KV or Kumarn’s. COuld you please give me the honest feedback on these schools.
And also are schools generally accomadative if we
return after the admissions are over?
Will there be any written test for him for LKG??
Eagerly waiting for ur reply.
Regards,
Gayatri
Hi Chitra, tremendous help from your website. It’s really informative. Please help me with some good schools in South Bangalore. Basically I want to choose from DPS, NPS, NHVPS and any other simlar school. Do you haev an idea about the fee structure for LKG and above at these schools?
Manupriya, while admissions into NPS Indirangar are not easy, you can definitely give it a shot. No harm there.
We know of one family where the 2 children go to CMR NPS and they are happy with the school. That’s about all I know.
Bethany is an older school. So, it is more typical - in the sense with the no.of students per class being in the 40s or so, I think.
Sishu Griha would be your other option.
Mush, yeah, defnitely try NPS.
Ramaiah, I don’t enough about either. SOrry.
Rashmi, both your options are good. Vidyashilp is more new-age international kind of school. Sishugriha is a montessori. The 2 aren’t really comparable, both good in their own ways.
Arathi, typically schools meet with the family during the admission process. But I don’t know if that is a must. You can call the school to chk.
Gayatri, typically schools arent accomodative after the admission process is over. Don’t know anything about Jyothi KV. Kumaran’s - parents are happy with in general. I don’t know of any schools that conduct tests for LKG, but there could be some.
Prithvi, I think all your choices are pretty good overall. I think trying in all of them maybe the wise thing to do.
For LKG, if I am not wrong, NHVPS is about 40k per annum, about 65k in NPS, and about 80+k in DPS. These are just ballpark numbers to give you an idea.
Chitra,
I want to know about the standard 5 syllabus for CBSE schools especially NPS, Indira Nagar. Please let me know the same. I also want to know whether I can get the admission for standard 5 for my son after completion of my first term in CBSE in different school in another state?
Thanks and regards,
thank you chitra, keep up the good work!
Hello Mush
We live in the DRDO complex and my son goes to a Preschool cum Daycare called Mother Montessori
Yeah I’ll also be trying for admission in NPS Indiranagar in October
Hi Chitra
This is a bit urgent
My son got admission in Nursery in DPS East in Sarjapur
Thru the ring road it takes around an hour to get there
I have only one day to decide if my 3.5 yr old son can cope with all this travelling from CV Raman Nagar to Sarjapur
Is it ok to make such a young child travel so far
I found the school to be good
Manupriya, are you going to be moving to anywhere near Sarjapur? If not, I would think you can give it a miss. There are lots of good schools in the CV Raman Nagar/Indiranagar neighborhood. All the best.
Hi chitra
Came across ur blog…really good work.keep it up..I m moving to bangalore in 2 months’ time..could u suggest some good schools near banashakari/Jayanager/J.pnagar for my 3 and 1/2 year old kid…
Also How good is sreekumaran’s school?
Thanks Chitra…….
Just to let you know the actual fees I heard from a few of my friends today who send their kids that it’s 50-52k in NHVPS (for LKG), 40-43k in DPS South.
Thanks Prithvi. I heard the NHVPS figure from a mom whose child started Pre-k there last year. Maybe they hiked that much this year? Don’t know.
And the DPS figure was from a mom whose child has been going to the Kindergarten at DPS North.
I am not surprised at the NHVPS figure, but I am about the DPS figure. I will call around to check. I assumed the north and the south branches would be priced the same. I guess I went wrong there. I shouldn’t have, since NPS’ fees vary depending on the branches.
Hi Chitra,
Thank you for ur time &help. I think your blog is extremely useful. Keep up the good work!!
My child is 18 months and I was thinking of putting him in Little Feat, Koramangala. Do you have any feedback on this?
Thanks!!
Hi Chitra,
On the same topic, what can you give me on National Public School and St. Josephs boys HIgh School. It is one of the oldest schools and used to have a good name in education. Where does it stand now? Nay reviews/feedback?
What would you suggest…Enrolling my son in montessori for a year and a half and then going for LKG at the age of four to a school…or let him be in a playhome till 4 and then enroll him?
Chitra,
Reg the DPS South fees, though it is 40-43k pre year, the first year admission fees (including tution) was around 90k for my friend. May be you have heard a similar number but that’s only for 1st year. It would have dropped from the subsequent year. Anyway, please check from your sources and confirm.
And as you said, NHVPS hikes a bit more every year I feel compared to others. Last month’s admission to Pre-K for my friend’s daughter was 51.5K and he told me next year it would be around 54K…..looks like they are trying to stay with the inflation….not a good thing!
Hello Chitra,
I am thinking of moving to Bangalore (to Marathalli) soon. I have a 7 year old daughter. I was interested in some good schools near there. ( As yet dont know the merits of different systems like CBSE, ICSE or State). But if someone konws about good schools in that area, can they please post it here. It would be nice if they could post it in the order of preference (numbering from 1 to 10 or so). This I understand is just the “poster’s” opinion, but will help us to decide on the same. Thanks in advance.
DPS east for sure has some safety issues. I had admitted my kids there in UKG and 4rth grades when I returned from the US in May. But 3 weeks later I pulled them out . My younger son got lost going to his class. Only on the 1st day they are shown after which they have to find the class themselves. He got really confused as there are a total of 21 Nursery, lkg and ukg classes in the kindergarten building. Also my older one who is in 4rth was pushed around. Since the construction is not yet done some kid found a nail and poked another kid with it. Apparently kids are not supervised during recess from 4rth grade onwards kids are a bit unruly during recess. Everyday he would say someone or the other went to the doctor during recess time. Also his class was on the 4rth floor and there was a portion where kids could just fall down straight as the construction is not completed. Academics was okay. We had no complaints as far as that goes
There is an article I have written on schools boards, the differences between them and some schools in Bangalore which has been published in teh online magazien Citizen Matters. You can read the article here: http://bangalore.citizenmatters.in/articles/view/319-school-boards
Thanks.

THANKS FOR BEING A PART OF MY EXPERIENCE….
First of its kind IB International school in Bangalore: Stonehill International. It will be offering all three IB Programmes: PYP, MYP, DP.
It is an education initiative of Embassy Group.
The school session begins September, 2008.
Chitra, could you please add this to your list of International Schools in Bangalore?
Thanks
Hello,
Very informative discussion! Thanks.
We are debating moving back to Bangalore after living in US for 12 years - my older one - 8 years old and second one is 4.
I am not concerned about my 4 year old since she would be starting fresh almost into the school system.(Though she is a full time pre-schooler here).
My concerns are for my 8 year old - i browsed through some opinions - some concerns - friendly positive environment for the kid keeping in mind his strengths and negatives AND safety and care. If you have these , most of the kids could be encouraged into the learning mode by themselves. I’m open to any location in blore preferably (old) airport road or JP Nagar.
I feel Blore does offer good schools, but how do you choose from the many?
Appreciate your inputs.
Hi Chitra,
Thanks for your response. Greatly appreciate your inputs..
I did check out on few schools as Euro Kids Indiranagar, yet to check on Neev. Generally, the age cut off is from 2.5 years for toddler schools.
Am quite confused as to if we should go ahead and put my kid (who is now, 1year 8 months) when she turns 2.5 years into a play school such as Eurokids/Neev . And to get her into mainstream schools such as NPS or Shishu Griha, after a year when she would be 3.5 (in June of the subsequent academic year).
My questions : 1. Is it worthy to send a kid to a play school for one year.
2. Will we stand a chance in NPS/Shishu Griha when she would be 3.5 by that time (as they are too keen on age cut off).
Your thoughts please…
Many Thanks..
Hi Chitra,
Came across your blog, very informative!
My question…My daughter will be 3.8 years by May of next year, should I be trying for montessori or KG-1 in NPS? .. since I hear a lot about their emphasis on age.
And, do you have any tips for getting admission to NPS?
.. anything that we could possibly take care of or is it pure luck?
Thanks.
…Also need some feedback on Freedom International School in HSR Layout.
Hello Chitra,
Could you give some information about Frank Anthony School? I have heard it is very good, but very much academically oriented and difficult to get in. Also the competition is too much?
How would you compare it with NPS and DPS?
Thanks
My kid is 4+; just turned 4 in August. I know this platform is not for answering this question .. but each one one of you might have thought around this some point of time.”Is it neccessary ro relocate just for hte sake of my kids schooling is it so rigid … what is the pros and cons of going going to Bangalore/India when she is in say 3 rd grade here… Iam plaaning to teach her the books for CBSE for the 1st and 2nd std…. but donno how far this is possible for us…..”; I am in California and she is going to Montessori here.. would it be very difficult to get into CBSE School in another 2/ 3 years .. by then she would be 6/7 years old.. I am just asking out of mind .. to you moms .. what would be right for me to do .. I may end up doing this .. but how good or bad is it for my kid .. and schooling
*******
Thanks in advance
zekha, it’s purely a personal choice to decide when to move back but based on what I have seen largely, people are too concerned that if they do not R2I before the age of 4-5 years, it’s going to be very tough for the kid to get adjusted to the study load and the school environment. Another big issue at a later stage would be to get admission to schools of your choice as they would be running almost full from class-1 onwards.
Zekha - I agree with Prithivi. The big factors are getting admission in the “right” schools. In general you have a good chance of getting into the good schools at the Kindrgarten (or Montessori level). But after that the number of dropouts per grade is rather less (may be 1 or 2 per year). As you can imagine the number of people wanting that slot is quite many. So - yeah - it is a lot easier to get an admission into a good (rather established) school easily.
The second point is about the rigor in the curriculum. More than that - the “second language” factor. What if you have to take one of the regional languages as the second language? Then that ads an entirely new dimension to the problem.
Hope that helps.
hi does anyone kno when the admissions forms for schools like shishu griha and other reputed schools start getting issued
hi anyone there???? could someone give a list of good schools in outer ring road/marathahalli/ HAL etc
Hi Chitra,

Hi Chitra,
Could you let me know when the admission forms for the pre KG are distributed in Vidya Sagar and DPS north? Is it mandatory that both parents need to be present for interview [my wife may not be able to go due to medical reasons]? Are the admission process over by end of November?

Does anyone has feedback on Akshara ( Ulsoor/Yelahanka)
Selvaa
Chitra,
It has been very encouraging to see your experienced messages on this blog. I intend to seek admission for my daughters in class I, Class VI and Class VIII.
I would be obliged if you could let me know about how do we go about admission to Kendriya Vidyalayas. Preferably in Hormavu area (are you aware of any KV out there).
Also a feed back on Sacred Heart Girl’s High School, at museum road would be appreciated. Any suggestions with regard to choosing schools are welcome. I plan to relocate from Mumbai.
Thanks
Anitha
Latha,
No easy answer to your question. I guess the answer depends on what your long term plans or (for the kids). If you are going to be in India - then in my personal opinion it is good to expose the kids to the “real world” - meaning competition. Going by that - the safe bet would be to choose one of the “established schools” known for the quality of education they provide.
However, if your stay in India is going to be more of a short term thing, then you should definitely look at a “new age” and/or international school.
Hope that helps.

hi chitra, do you have any idea about treamis world school in electronic city. its an international school following two curriculums, CBSE and IGCSE(UK). Fee structure is around 80k for kindergarten. The advantage is my house is very nearby to that school in electronic city n even my husbands office. the school is very new, like they started it only last year. i didnt find much reviews about the school on google. they say they have the class strength of 20 n thats really very reasonable.they are also admitting the kids for any class till september 30th even if you want it for this academic year. but we dont know much about the school. do you have any idea about the school? please let me know if u have come across the school reviews.
Hi Chitra
I was looking for advise on my son admission and found your blog
My son is 3.2 (DOB 21st July)and attends a Montessori. This is his first experience in school and is just getting adjusted
I need your advise as to whether i should admit him to LKG in a big school next year or have him attend another year in the play school and get him admitted to UKG in a big school.
My areas of concern is taking him out of school which he is just getting adjusted to and admission / adjustment difficulties in UKG.
What do you suggest I do. Pls advise
Hello,
Can anyone let me know if the child needs to be present for the actual admission? How does one submit the admission form to any school?
We called up NPS yesterday and they were very abrupt in answering questions. I would appreciate if anyone shares their experience.
Thanks
Hi Manjushree,
Yes. Usually in most schools the child would be expected to be there for the actual admission. Some have “interviews” - which are more of telling colors etc… but I don’t think it’s a big deal. (I am assuming that your kid is getting admitted in the earlier classes like Montessori / KG).
Reg. the admission forms - you should be able to drop off the admission forms. They usually get back in touch with the parents whose kids have been short listed later. At that time - you would be expected to come in with the child.
Good luck.
-Ganapathy
Ray - Most of the schools should be handing out the forms around now. So you should check with the schools.
Reg. sishu griha I saw some information here (http://www.zeeksha.com/school/sishu-griha). Check it out.
-Ganapathy
Thanks Ganpathy for the info. So we need to be present to even submit the form?

aditi
Hi Manjushree,
No not for the form. I meant the interview.
Reg. the forms - Usually you will be able to fill it at and drop it off.
-Ganapathy
There is a new school called BGS NPS near Bannerghatta road. K.V Gopalakrishnan who is the founder member of NPS seems to be in the managing committee. Do anybody know about this school?

Hi all,
My daughter is Sep,2006 born. 2 Yrs now and joined in the Playgroup at KidZee. Can someone pls tell me the nursery admission requirement at DPS East(sarjapur road)? We would like to get admission for nursery. As of Jun 2009 her age will be 2 yrs 8 months.
Also appreciate any feedback on DPS East.
Thanks
ronith
Hi krupa,
My scenario is similar to yours. My daughter is Sep 2006 born and now going to start the play school in Kidzee. We would like to get admission in nursery of any good school. Do you mean pre-nursery is like play-school. I belive most of the schools admit for nursery at the age of 3. ( With June as cut-off).
So am I corect in assuming July, Sep 2006 born are eligible for nursery admision only for 2010-11 academic year? By that time age would be 3 years + some months.
Thanks
ronith
Hi chitra and others,
I am looking for info on bannerghatta schools. Have heard abt BGS, DPS,Presidency and PSBB. Most schools need the kid and parent to be in the town for interview/admission process.
I am currently in US, looking for any help in getting admission for my 4.8 year old (by may 2009) from here.
I do have relatives who can go to the school and talk to the admin. But neither me nor my son will be able to be in India before summer 2009.
Plz help.
Thanks,

Hi, I would like to join this group.
Please advise how do I go for it.
Hi Chitra,
Your blog seems to be the most popular among all parents trying to have their kids admitted in B’lore. You are really serving a very good purpose. Thanks for the time you spare to do this.
Well, I am looking to admit my 4 yr old son into LKG in South Bangalore and had narrowed down schools like NPS (HSR), Bethany, DPS, Innisfree, Sri Kumarans & St.Pauls, … On enquiry except NPS, all others said that they admit only to Pre-KG / Nursery and for LKG it would be based only on available vacancy to be checked between Jan & Mar 09.
Could you please suggest me what should be my approach further. Do I wait for NPS or try any other school nearby… any suggestions?
Thanks
Samarth
Hi ushma,
There are no IGCSE schools in HSR Layout.
Most of the IGCSE/ IB schools are in Sarjapur.
HSR
Cambridge public school - ICSE
Freedom International - CBSE
NPS HSR - This is new one and I believe should be CBSE.
Sarjapur road,
GEAR - CBSE
Primus - ICSE/IGCSE
Greenwood - ICSE and now IGCSE too
Inventure - ICSE/IGCSE
Both Greenwood and Inventure would be far from HSR. ( approx 16 km..)
Thanks
Ronith
Hi Chitra,
My daughter will complete 2 years 10.5 months on June 1st,2009.
We are looking to get her into preschool/montessori at that time.I was thinking that I could send her to montessori for 3 years (pre-school+ kg1+kg2) and then look at shifting to another school for first standard. What do you suggest?
We live on Sarjapur/outer ring road.
Which is a good preschool to consider? When do I start looking at these schools?Generally when does the admission process start?
Is there anyone who can tell me the fee structure for the schools too? Just to keep myself informed.
Answers from anyone are most welcome.
Hi,
Can you please provide feedback on the presidency school in Bilekehalli
Regards.
Hi,
Could someone pls provide any feedback on Gear Innovative international school?
How is the academics?
Thanks
This is a real good attempt! and I fully agree with Chitra’s views on NPS, as both my daughters are going at NPS Indiranagar in KG 2 and KG 1 now. THE FORMS FOR KG 1 ARE BEING GIVEN THIS WEEK. I.E. TILL 25TH OCT I SUPPOSE.
NPS really does not put any pressure on the kids till the first standard, so far as I have heard and am seeing for last two years. Hardly any homework too- max 1/2 pages ONLY ON WEEKENDS! And it’s Not really so much about only and only acacdemics(even though we all feel academics is primary at schools, rest we can take care of elsewhere), the idea is that they nurture a culture of excellence in whatever one opts to do or be. I think that’s Great! But, getting in is real tough, given some 7000 odd forms and only 60 seats at LKG.
ONE OBSERVN: i don’t know why NPS’s and DPS’s have been put in the same group, they have ABSOLUTELY NO CONNECTION and I haven’t by far come across any equivalent response about DPS in terms of quality.
Hi Tapathi,
May I ask how did u get through in LKG? Am already worried as i will be attempting for NPS when my kid is 4 + in two years.. Any tips, feedback would be greatly appreciated..
Are you part of the NPS Alumni by any chance? I heard alumni kids gets through easily..
Getting through to a good schools is such a dream these days!! sigh!!
Hi all,
I have questions regarding age requirement for CBSE.
Heard that CBSE is very strict about age for 10th exam.
What should be the age of the student to appear for 10th exam. ? Where can i get the details.
Thanks
preeti
Hi,
I went through your site and it was quite infomative.I am a teacher by profession and have moved to Bangalore recently.I am soon going to apply for jobs in schools but I do not want to join a conventional school.I have workred with a progressive school called Shishantar in Gurgaon for more than 2 and a half years and I am looking for a similar place.I have checked about Prakriya Green Wisdom School and have liked it.I would like to kow about similar schools and the jobs that they are offering.
regarding age at 10th standard, schools are telling that, at he time of filling 10th standard form , child age should be 14 years 10 months complete. so after 9th standard is over and on 1st june of the 10th standard, child should be 14.10
Thanks rupesh. That means the child can not start 1st standard not less than 5 years 10months?
Hi Chitra
My son who is 8 years old is now in the 3rd grade in NJ, US. He has always studied here, We are looking at moving in June. WE will be staying off Whitefield Road. What do you think of Indus ? My son does not enjoy too much regimemtation and he is very sports oriented. He learns best in a fun environment, Could you recommend a good school for him? I heard about the VAlley School but it is too far for us.
Thanks and regards

Hi,
Can any one suggest good C.B.S.E schools near to B.T.M. I want to admit my child in to U.K.G for the academic year 2009. My daughter was born on Oct19,2004. As of now she completed 4 years and for the next academic year june 1st, 2009 she would be 4 year 7 months 11 days. Is it correct age of her to join or it is lower age for U.K.G. What is the required age for CBSE school to admit in U.K.G. Please advice.
Ram
Ram,
The usual age for UKG admission is 5Years and for LKG it is 4Years. This is what we came to know after visiting few schools. So not sure whether your daughter will be eligible for UKG for the 2009 academic year. You can talk to the schools of your interest and check any relaxation is possible.
Thanks
ronith
Hi,
I had applied for NPS HSR in the month of August 2008 for montessori I, called up the school also and they are telling that process will start only in December
Also they tell that “Registration does not gaurantee admission” you can apply for other schools also.
So parents please don’t rely only on NPS, go ahead and search for all schools around and appy. NPS is not the only school in Bangalore, there are many schools who also offer good education for that 70K fees.
Don’t get disappointed if they don’t give, many people apply and school will not even worry to communicate that the kid is not eligible.
Just my 2c about this school……..try your luck if you get its good if don’t forget and get other school.
Thanks Rohit.
I will check with the schools.
Ram
Jayanthi,
Indus follows IB .They offer 2 IB levels PYP and DP.
The campus is pretty good and didn’t hear anything bad about this school. The fees will be high. If you are planning to be in whitefield/Sarjapur road other schools are TISB ( IB DP ), Inventure Academy ( ICSE/IGCSE) and Greenwood ( ICSE/IGCSE). I heard from parents that the atmosphere is quite relaxed in both Inventure and Greenwood with lots of extra activities.
Thanks
ronith
Hi all,
How is india international school ? Any feedback from parents? How is the academics and teaching staff?

Hi,
What is the age cut off for the 10th exam in ICSE and CBSE?

Hi,
Thanks for all the great information and discussions.
We just R2Ied 4 mos ago to Bangalore; our older daughter got admission in NAFL (grade 4) and seems to be adjusting well. We currently rent a place close to the school, but were evaluating a possible relocation to the JP Nagar area. In this case, we are considering the option of moving our daughter to Sri Kumaran’s school (which is close to JP Nagar). I would like to know if anyone has experience with Sri Kumarans and NAFL wrt how they compare with one another etc. I understand, from a little bit of my research, that Sri Kumaran’s has a somewhat larger class size, lower fees, and perhaps, a little greater emphasis on inculcating ‘Indian culture’.
Any other comments or suggestions of good schools in the JP Nagar area would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.
BR
Looks like, schools (fee structure) discussed here are all for the high flyers upper middle or upper class!
Is there any discussions/ blogs/ sites around schools for the middle/ lower middle class people?
Any feedback on Clarence Public School J P Nagar??
Inputs will be highly appreciated!
Thanks.
Hi,
Anyone can provide feedback on Cambridge school located in HSR Layout.

Hi,

Can someone provide feedback on
1)India International School, sarjapur road.?
2) DPS East ,sarjapur
3)Gear Innovative International school, sarjapur.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated
I have few questions -
1. What are the chances of getting an admission in NPS montessori class if it is a relocation case and both parents are working ?
2. Specifically if applied in 3 NPS branches, is there a point in applying to other schools?
3. we stay near sarjapur road - outer ring road junction and if i have to pick 2 more schools at this point, pl suggest ?
Any response is much appritiated.
Hi,
Has anyone heard from NPS or Sishu Griha for Montessori admission in 2009 ? Do you know when they would announce the list ?

Hi RK,
No, not yet recd. any calls…Shishu griha willl start the screening process only in the month of dec ..
nps, I have been told had extended their last date for form submission till 15th of nov (i guess to make however much they can by collecting 250 bugs on each form :)..So hopefully their 30th nov deadline will extend too..
pls do let me know if you or anybody gets a call…i too will…
thanks
Checked with Sishu griha today. I believe they will have the results by Dec 15th.
NPS I am told is likely to have it by Dec 20th, but they couldn’t commit to it.

I am shifting from Navi Mumbai to Bangalore and seeking a good CBSE school in North West Bangalore. I short listed NPS, NAFL, Venkat Int’l, Navkis. Fee appears to be very high, but do they deliver what they charge in fees? Can anybody pl advise their experiences to help me take appropriate decision.
Hi all,
This will be really useful info for those
living in Sarjapur Road-Varthur-Airport road-Whitefield belt .
Sarjapur is famous for bangalore’s best schools .Now GEAR is setting up schools on Sarjapur area in collboration with Confident Group. I came to know that Confident-GEAR Montessori Plus is going to start in this year and admission has been already started. Confident-GEAR Creative Leadership School (CBSE ), Sarjapur is in plan.
I heard that GEAR is pretty good because of their teaching methodology and strong montessori foundation.
More info is available at
http://www.gear.ac.in/?ui=gfp
Probably any parents already gone through school hunting process can comment.
Thanks,
ronith
Hi Chitra,
I have been reading your blog for quite some time now. very interesting. I live n boston. I have two kids, elder one is in I grade and younger one in kg. It ’s been only a year since we moved here. I will be moving back home to bangalore in 2010 (academic). what are the chances of getting admissions in schools at bangalore? I cannot afford to pay international schools. how is the selection done? is there any written test?
my elder son was studying in FAPS in bangalore.
Do kids really struggle to cope up the pressure?
could you please share some information on that?
thanks and regards
lakshmi
Hi,
I am moving back to India mid next year from US and looking for school admission for my 2 kids. My son is in Kindergarten and doing Kumon and will turn 6 on Jun 3. My daugter is in Montessori and will turn 3 on May 20. My office is close to silkboard and I am looking for good schools around that area.
I would like get feedback and fee structures on Prakriya, GEAR, GreenWood High, NPS HSR layout, Cambridge Public Schools (Old and New) in HSR Layout.
Also, has anyone heard about kara 4 kids in HSR. Their prices pretty high.
Any guidance/help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
If you are looking for Montessory admission Both NPS and GEAR are excellent and following CBSE. Admission process is going on right now. But admission in both will be very difficult. I came to know that the rejection ratio in GEAR is too high. They prefer kids in the age of 2.5 yrs for M0 admission. Also getting in to std-1 wil be tough. You need to plan ahead. Pls check with the schools asap.
It is better to admit in pre-schools in a good school than in small montessories because they will have good quality teachers and methods.
Regarding Prakriya, Greenwood, Cambridge I do not have much information. These schools were not in my list of schools. But I heard from other parents that Greenwood and other international schools have more relaxed curriculum with less on academics/exams.
Thanks
Hello sankool,
i think you need to plan early if you target 2009-2010 for your kids. School admission in bangalore starts early. You can check with the schools directly.
NPS HSR will be near for you. I heard fee is high. Not sure about admission.
GEAR is also very good and is on off-sarjapur road.
What I heard is that admission is very difficult in both because seats are very limited and they get thousands of applications.
But newer schools like Greenwood and international schools take kids any time. Admission will not be a problem. Fees will be a problem!
It is better to check as soon as possible.
regards
Could someone pls tell me the difference between Montessori and LKG/UKG? Which is better? From the website NPS, GEAR, Sisu gruha are following Montessory. Schools like DPS follows Nursery/LKG/UKG. Pls advice

Hi Girish
Is your wife working, asked to know wther are they ok if kids mom is working,
Hi,
We had interview for nursery admission in NHVPS last week. I must say it was a nightmare. Since we are residing in rajarajeshwarinagar it was very important for us to get admission in that school. We were following up from last year.
On the day of interview, the moment we entered into principal’s chamber she had “Not to give admission” attitude towards us. She stated questioning me and my husband. She went on finding mistakes in whatever we spoke. After interrogating about us and our family she said she will get back to us and asked us to leave. We waited for a day and finally called the school to know that our application is rejected.
I and my spouse work in good organization with decent salary. Our Child is very active and social. We stay within 2 kms of the school. We have good family background. We both are very soft spoken. Then what should be reason for the rejection? A BIG QUESTION
I think she had already decided whom to give admission and not give. Call for interview was just a gimics.2 of my friends attended the interview same day and their profile is same as that of ours. Only difference is that they belong to principal’s (Rama Ranganathan) Caste. Is she caste biased? If yes then she is doing wrong .She has no rights to so and I think school management should pitch in.
There are no rules and regulation in India. In US you can’t reject admission to school without valid reason. People who stay in that area should be given preference if they are capable of paying the fees.
If somebody from management of NHVPS is reading my blog I request them to give a thought about Principal Mrs. Rama Ranganathan.
I am not writing this with anger that my child didn’t get admission .I just want to create awareness about what Mrs. Rama is doing. I am sure many parents would have gone through this pain. I am raising voice behalf of them.
MRS Rama, If you are reading this I would request you , not to do this in future. For every parent their child’s future is very important .By doing this you are making them to suffer with guilt that because of them their child couldn’t get admission to the school. I and my husband are suffering from same guilt
Thanks

Hi,
I was surfing the Internet, when I came accross this site, I have been very upset at the selection process for students at BISHOP COTTONS BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL, Bangalore this year for Nursery. I would like to share that with you all. My husband graduated from BIshop Cottons College, Guwahati, we applied in the school, and to our amazement, we were not even called for “Interview” at the school, and the selected students list was put up. The School authorities do need to modify their selection process. They cannot judge the creditibility of the parents from………….. I don’t know how, until they come to at least have an interaction with the candidate those have applied. I feel, I am cheated by the school. There is a nexus, though the school is not able to provide the details when contacted for.
It is really a shame (on us?). We pin our hopes for schools admission and we are not even called for. What does that convey? It is time that the school acts and provides answers…
Thanks and regards,
Shila
Hi,
I will tell you in general, the process followed by many schools. It is purely my understanding.
1) Salary of the parents should cross a specified mark
1a)child’s age should meet certain criteria
2)Preference will be given for single girl child
3)preference for parents with transferable job
4)preference for child who has a sibling already in school
5)preference on residence locality
6)In some schools, preference is given for a child, whose mother is not employed.
I too faced this kind of situation and had met with the principal of a famous school

Hello Chithra
I need some help with regard to selecting a preschool or play home close to Gokula before I put them to a proper school. My children are 2 years old now. I am sure most of the schools would have finished their admission procedures.
Dear All,
We are movieg from London to Bangalore during March 09. I have a daughter who will be 4 yrs in April 09. We are going to live in CV Raman Nagar. Can anyone please give me some good schools in that area. I have tried calling NPS, Sishu Griha and New Horizon based on the reviews but found out that they have closed their admissions in December 08. Please it would be really very helpful if someone can help me with the list of good schools in and around CV Raman Nagar..
Vijay,
I believe you would be looking for LKG admission.
Most of the school admissions for 2009-2010 academic year must have been over now. The process had started early September’08 or so..
So it is better to call as many schools as possible to check out any possibility of admission now.
Other than NPS and sisu griha not sure about good schools around CV Raman nagar.
Thanks
Vijay,
Agree with SP. The admission process in most of the schools would be over by now (especially for the Montessori and LKG).
You can check Presidency (Kasthuri Nagar). It’s not too far away from CV Raman Nagar. The other option is to put your kid in a school like Neev (Indiranagar) and try for the admissions in the other schools for ‘10.
Good luck.

Dear all,
I am an NRI returning to Bangalore by April 2009. However my family has been in Chennai since 2005. We will be staying at Unitech Heritage Estate in Yelahanka (Doddabalapur Road).
By March 2009, my elder daughter (17+) will be passing out of Std 11 under the TN Matriculation Board. She needs to find admission for Std 12 in Bangalore for the academic year 2009-10.
By the same time my younger daughter (7+) who is now studying in a State Board School at Chennai (Bambino) needs admission to Std 3.
I have a son (14+) who is a non verbal autistic and needs atleast 48 hrs of OT and one on one therapy every week.
We feel that DPS North will be a good choice for both our children. However they are not academic toppers and need a lot of motivation to concentrate.
We will be extremely grateful for any and all advise/guidance we can get.
Sorry…. I forgot to clarify that in my previous post, we are looking at DPS North for our daughters for Std 12 and Std 3. We are looking for therapy and special school options in and around Yelahanka town for our son.
Basu,
There is another section in this website named ‘Schools for autistic kids in Bangalore’. You could go thru it and get some useful information.
Reg admission for std 12 and std 3, DPS north is a very good school, though may not be academic toppers but do get 100% pass results.
Hi Vijay,
Bishop Cotton’s Girls’ and Boys’ Schools are accepting applications for LKG until Feb 19, 2009. If your child is completing 4 years by June 1, 2009, he/she would be eligible is ending on LKG admissions in these prestigious schools!
Hope this helps.
Sorry, I meant….
If your child is completing 4 years on or before June 1, 2009, he/she would be eligible for LKG admissions in these prestigious schools!

Hello,
My daughter is completes 3 yrs and 3 months by June’09. I am looking for her pre-nursery this year and her KG in 2010.
Can someone tell me the admission procedure for the Cluny Convent - Malleshwaram?
Hey I was just going thru this beautiful blog.
I stay in Malleshwaram. my daughter is 3.5 yrs old. My daughter had an interview with Cluny Convent in the last week. Just wanted to chk on the fees structure. I tried to do a research on the fees structure. I got a variety of response from my friends. what was mentioned in the Application Letter was Rs 20000 + Donation( to be writtten by us). I have a few of my friends who say its only Rs 35000 a year. Does any one know more about this school as well as the fee structure
Chitra
First of all very nice blog, has been very informative. We are currently in the process of returning back home. I have a 11 year old and was wondering if you knew anyone with kids around that age who moved back from US.
1. How did the kid cope with the system back home?
2. How long did it take for the kid to adjust to the schooling there?
3. How difficult or easy was the transition for the kid?
Thanks in advance for your responses

Request someone to please let me know about eurokids banerghatta road branch…. Anyth negative or positive… did visit that place and as far as outer appearances and services offered are concerned, I was pretty happy. But I guess parents already sending their kids there will know more…. PLEASE let me know…
Hi Chitra,
I am planning to put my son into Nursery by July 2010. I am looking for some Good CBSE and ICSE Schools in and around Thippasandara. The Fees should be reasonable. I am not looking for International Schools.
Could you please provide some details
Thanks,
Sivakumar
Friends, I took my daughter to DPS east for “Observation” for pre-nursery and they took the poor kid to a room and supposedly gave her some tasks(from what my daughter told me) which she finished. Now when the list of admissions is out her name is not there, so I go there and inquire from them, the reply is “Sir she is good but not excellent”. Even repeated entreaties to them to tell me at least the general areas in which my kid should improve was met with the response “please try next year”. After this staggering revelation from the front desk I request to meet the Principal not once but twice and that too in person but I am refused because she is “very busy”.
My simple question to all the parents out there is: Should a kid as young as 3 yrs be yanked away from his/her parents and interviewed/observed in isolation? Isn’t there a recommendation by the Ganguly committee that there should be no interview/observation of the pre-primary kids?
I am terribly upset at the way admissions are handled in this institution. All these places have become money minting addresses.
NB:The sole reason I am not giving out my name is because I don’t want my kid to be penalized for this mail by other such “educational institutions”
Chitra
I have got call from NPS for 1st standard admission test. Does anybody has any information regarding the test ? what do they ask etc .

Planning to move to Bangalore. Can i get some view s on PSBB school at Bangalore. I have very good reviews of PSBB chennai.
Hi friends
Can someone give me the feed back on Cambridge Public school ( new) Hsr layout , 1st Sector.
We are shifting to Bangalore, would request some views on three schools- Kumarans, NPS- kormangala and PSBB LLA. Which could be betterchoice for academics and extra curricular.
I heard that there will be both Kannada and Hindi languages in ICSE schools in Bangalore from 1st standard itself. Is that right? If yes, is this the case in CBSE schools as well because I feel it is a bit too taxing for the kid.
Hi Hema: The first two are more established in Bangalore. PSBB is obviously a well established school in Chennai but is relatively new in Bangalore. I don’t have any personal experience with the school - so can’t on it.
My choice would be (1) NPS Koramangala (2) Kumarans and (3) PSBB.
BTW - for which academic are you looking for? If it is this eyar, I would think the admission process in NPS and Kumaran’s would be complete already. Not sure about PSBB. Check with the schools about the dates.

Any help in pouring past experience for your Kids 4th and 5th Grade Written Test would be greatly appreciated … Selva
You are doing a great job here. I find your blog as the only place discussing about the schools in Bangalore and guiding the parents out of confusion. We are moving to Bangalore this May. We are planning to reside in J.P. Nagar. We are looking for a good school for my 7 year old son, who will be getting promoted to 2nd standard this year.He studied his Nursery, Jr. KG and Sr.KG in a concept school in a play and learn, no stress no exams atmosphere. We are looking for a good school for him in the above said area. What about Clarence Public School? I did not get much information about this school in your blog. Please help me in this regard. Also, please suggest-which is better? ICSE OR CBSE?
Anuradha: check this post. You may find it useful regarding ICSE or CBSE: http://r2blore.chitra-aiyer.com/2008/04/cbse-and-icse-2-obvious-syllabus-choices.html
Don’t know much about Clarence.

It. Iis nice to see helpful information. I have recently shifted from Mumbai to Bangalore and was looking for good school in Basaveswarnagar / rajaji nagar area. I have two boys seeking admission in 3rd & 6th standard respectively. I have already got confirmation for admission in DPS north (but is quite a distance to travel everday for children, so have kept as last option). NPS rajajinagar is waitlisted & I am not very hopeful to get admission. I have not yet checked with Venkat (VIPS) option and would like to seek your opinion. Please let me if it’s difficult to get admission and what is the fee structure (donation? if any).
What is general opinion of all about Sri Vani Machohalli school? Thanks
Madhura
Hi Elizabeth.. you have mentioned that u stay at K.R Puram Marathahalli … I also shifting in the same area. Can you please suggest me good playgroup in this area?
HI, My daughter is 4 years 2 months, We were planning to relocate to India by next April, she is currently going to a Montessorie In USA, however she does not write well like many other kids in india should be by her age I guess, although her vocabulary and oral are pretty impressive IF I may say so, We live in bannerghatta road and we’re trying to get her admission done in DPS south can someone tell me If she’ll have to write a test for LKG? if yes what all do they ask in the wriiten tests in India as in the US they focus more on hands on activities. Please guide me for my trying to get in touch with DPS south banaglore and keeping me on hold for hours I have never ever recieved any information from them. Thank You.
Tulika: For LKG it should be fairly straightforward (as long as you apply at the right time).
Usually, you will be asked to come along with your kid. Some school may ask the kid some questions (color, shape, numbers, alphabets and stuff like that).
Note that the school admission process for the following year (I.e. 2010) will start some time around October 2009. Varies by school of course.
Good luck.
-Ganapathy
Dear Ganapathyji, Thanks for the link. It is wealth of information. I have decided to put my son in the CBSE syllubus stream. After talking to schools like Clarence and Presidency, Treamis appears to be the option for me. In Clarence, Kannada is compulsory. Presidency doesn’t have seat vacancy for 2nd standard. My son studied upto 1st standard here in Gujarat in a stress free no exam kinda school. How about Treamis? Or provide me with any links to Treamis reviews. Thanks.
Hi,
We are planning to relocate to bangalore in June/July. My daughter has just started Grade II in DPS Sharjah. We will be residing in Banashankari area. What are the chances of getting admission at that time? What are the best options in terms of schools? Thanks.
You seem to have missed out Cathedral High School
Many people actually miss out the oppurtunity to give their children a quality education at reasonable costs.
Other than Frank Anthony, I think Cathedral is the one having low fees. No interviews for admissions. Just a list on the notice board of people selected on a first come first serve basis. If you dont pay the fees, then the next in line is given the chance. Teacchers at Primary level are very understanding and friendly to the kids
Best regards
Bala
Could anyone tell me abt the admission procedure for KG in DRDO KVs for civilians
could any one tell me what is the minimum age for a child to get admitted to LKG in ICSE schools? Is there any order of ICSE board on age criteria?
hi chitra and others,
Its nice to see your valuable comments on the schools of bangalore. Actually my 4 yrs son has already taken admission in DPS east however I am bit reluctant to send him to the school with the unsafe travel in the Bus. I stay in CVR nagar and in fact after his 1st day in school I am thinking to pull him out from DPS and getting his admission in NCFE Malleshpalya but also am comparing both theses schools in all the way. so am in a big dilemma now, I think your valuable suggestion will be to go ahead.
BTW if he continues in DPS than I was planning to move close to sarjapur. Will it be wise for me to move to Sarjapur and continue in DPS or shall I get his admission in NCFE. I also prefer NCFE as he has got admission in LKG however he is in Nursery in DPS. Please suggest me.
could any one tell me about minimum age for a kid to get admitted to LKG in ICSE and CBSE?
Hi Raghav,
For both ICSE and CBSE the Age should me 4.5 Years for LKG. For CBSE some schools like Ryan , Vagdevi are accepting 3.5 years for LKG.
I have been looking for information on canadian
international school.
I visited the school few days ago but couldn’t
really decide.
I will be grateful if somebody could help me out.
Any view /reviews would be welcome.

I am looking for central school (KV) admission for class V for my grandchiled, whose parents will be relocating to Bangalore shortly from H/Bad. She has had her earlier classes in Singapore and Sydney.
Hi chitra,
I am looking for school around sarjapur road.
There are few options but i am not able to figure out which one to go ,for e.g. DPS,NPS,Greenwood High.
Could you please let me know which one is better?
Your options are not “few” in Sarjapur road.
Sarjapur road has the maximum number of schools in bangalore. Traditional/International..etc.
So you have lot of options!!!
It depends on what kind of school you are interested.
Syllabus/Facilities/Fees etc matters a lot.
It is very difficult to do 1-1 comparison of DPS v/s Greenwood because these are entirely in different categories.
There is no NPS in Sarjpaur road.
Hello Chitra,
We returned back to B’lore couple of months back. Our daughter was September born, and was only 3.9 this June. We have to wait for another year to put her in LKG in some good CBSE schools. Do you have any idea when the admission process for 2010-11 starts, and when they will start issuing the application forms?
Hi!!! Orkids Preschool in HRBR/Kalyanagar is a very good option… They follow both the nursery and the montessori method of teaching… I got my son admitted there and I really like the place… They are very spacious, colourful, proper ventillation/fresh air, excellent equipments and extremely approachable staff… You can contact them on 99453 53699/98866 71185
Hii
Can any one give me feed back about St. Peters school,Sarjapur Road?
Could you please let me know which one is best over there. I am looking for CBSE syllabus , fees should be normal to medium not at higher side. NPS i have mentioned is at HSR.

Gear Innovative, Sarjapur road ( Montessori based and CBSE )
Heard impressive feedback from parents. The teaching method is quite different from traditional schools.
DPS East , Sarjapur road( Nursery/LKG/UKG and CBSE based )
I heard mixed feedback about DPS east.
NPS ( HSR ) : NPS feedback was good for indiranagar. HSR branch is a new . Pls check with parents.
Freedom International: This is also a new school in HSR. I heard mixed feednack about this.
thnks a lot Chitra

Hi Chitra,
I know the discussion is mostly on schools here. And u have an excellent blog here, pretty informative. My question is little away from the schools.I hope you could help me on this.I am from Kuwait, my children are studying in IGCSE (British Curriculum) , if my children finish their A levels, and come to India for any professional course, like engineering or medicine, will they lose a year?As their results come in August. But if they do give their entrance exams, could they get the admission in any professional college? That would be a great help .Thank you.
Hi,
Different states follow different guidelines for professional degree admissions. Pls check.
Regarding IIT or All india medical you should be able to get the details from the websites.
But the general feeling is that it would be difficult for an IGCSE or IB student to compete in such entrance exams. These syllabuses are completely different by contents or teaching method. when compared to indian system. Most of the entrances including IIT or All india medical are based on the CBSE syllabus. Also regarding the eligibility pls check the website.
Thanks
Hi!! I will be shifting to blore in dec09, my problem is to find A good school for my son 3 years old and b. decide the nearest place to stay in if I have to travel to hosur for my job every day. My husbands office is going to be in the main city around residency road.

Hi Chitra,
I am Raja from Banaswadi,Bangalore. I am looking LKG admission in NPS Indra Nagar for my son - year 2010-11.
They were telling since we are staying at Banaswadi we wont get seat in NPS . Also we came to know that admission is based on some criteria (i.e. Alumini students childs, siblings , central govt staffs childs, IBM & sasken employeed parents can get their quota..etc
Do you know the admission criteria for NPS completely. Also Somebody is telling political recommendation will work out .. Is it true??
Thanks
Raja
Hello,
I need to take a call on CMR NPS at kalyan nagar in about 10 days time.I’ve read mixed reviews on the net.Chitra’s review on the same was positive ( based on the feedback from someone she knows). Can anybody put some more meat to the matter ? also any other suggestions in the vicinity of kalyanagar.
chitra - is it possible for me to get some more inputs from your freinds as I do not know anybody personally and don’t want to regret after I take a call.
Cheers!
Santosh
Santosh, could you pls tell be for which class you are looking and how you went about the process? Two of my friends , got 2 different treatment, one was given the form after interaction with the vice principal, and the other was asked to come only in may 2010 by vice principal. The staff at the reception said, she cant do anything, the vice principal decides who gets thru and not?!!!
Found that very suspisious.
But from other things i could gather, the school and its acdemics are good…very good results
does any body know abt Christ Academy school on way to Electonics City???
Raja,
Thanks for sharing such interesting news.
Infact only school management knows the admission criteria. There is no guidelines or rules.
It is pathetic to know that schools started reserving seats for IT company parents.. looks wiered to me.
Hi
I find it crazy that I have to pay > 60K for getting admission to LKG/UKG for my daughter who is 3 years old. I am looking for good schools CBSE/ICSE with fees not more than 30-35K per year , is there any such school anywhere in Bangalore ? Please provide the names of such schools.
Thanks
RK
had previously enquired abt christ academy school, electronics city…but no response ..please share some info on this school activites, fees…
We are moving to Bangalore in summer of 2010. Please provide any reviews about Vibgyor Marthahalli.
Praveena - I’m surprised on hearing your friends’ experience but I thought collecting the admission form was very straight forward. The staff at the reception gave me the admission form after verifying my daughters age.We have applied for LKG and I also saw many parents collecting the form for other classes.I think your friends would have approached them after the due date or they could be an age related issue.Yes,I also verified with a few parents there and their feedback wrt the school was very positive.
well, i guess there was some misunderstanding…. they were actually applying for Montessori, and i guess thats why they were asked to see the vice principal… anyways they have been asked to come in may and collect the forms for the june admissions
Lets see how that goes on
Just wanted to post my experience while collecting the forms from nps kor
“the queue for getting the forms was so bad…like the entire blore had come today. the queue was atleast 1 km ( not joking). And after 11, they closed the gates and only those inside the gates were given forms. i reached at 9.20 and got the forms at 12.15.
they r just out there to make money. After i got the form, i heard the help desk lady say, that there r several critirea like sibling/ proximity/ alumini etc, points r given , and bsed on those scores, they take. So basically, for normal parents, chances r very very slim
secondly, while u buy the form , no queris r answered. After getting the form, they tell some parents that chances r slim, submit the form and let the school take a call, results r out only in the 2nd wk of Jan.
More parents were in a fix. After getting the form, they were told by the help desk lady that the child will not fit into either M1 or Kg1… i.e the age for M1 is 2.10 to 3.6 and kg starts from 3.10…so kids between the age of 3.7 to 3.9 as on june 1st 2010 are basically lost. One parent said that her kid would be 3.9 and in NPS INDr she applied for kg1 and while submitting the form, she was made to cut it and write M1. While buying the form in kormangala, the lady issuing the form said, ok do the same, but after she got the form, the help desk lady said, oh the kid will not fall into any age group, … not sure either u write M1/KG1 or just write KG1 and let the school take a call. The parent asked then, what will such kids do…and the help desk lady just said ” oh maybe you all should start planning, when u r planning to have kids itself!!!!!”
Just see the height of stupidity. i was shocked , ….. ANd all this happens only after u buy the form…. so basically their only concern is that they sell their forms and make money out of that. They have made a cool 3-4 lakhs just today… many ppl were buying 2 forms for friends etc. Maximum they give is 2 forms per person. U just have to give the name and the class!!!
NPS indr was more civilised.”
Is this the procedure NPS follow for admission.
Really shocked. How can someone plan the birth of the kid and the month? This is so stupid.
They are offering Montessori and Kindergarten for the money sake and finally confused on age criteria.
Hey Sumi,
Can understand what you went through, I was there too. The sad part is that inspite of all this, chances of our child getting admission is close to zilch. I am already getting sleepless nights thinking about this “admission project”.
I really wish NPS would specify their criteria for giving admission. There are 3000 applicants for 30 seats, so I wonder how they screen the applications.
An interesting read
http://bsandas.blogspot.com/2007/12/nps-admissions.html
Hi
Can anyone suggest some good cbse school around electronic city with reasonable fees for 1st grade.
Thanks.
Hi,
Just want to inform you that I attended the interview at CMR NPS , kalyan nagar last saturday. It was definitely not crowded and the staff were very cordial. The child was taken into a room separately , dont know what happened there but my daughter was very excited about the piano she played inside.Later ,approx 15 min after our arrival we were asked to meet the chairperson and there were two senior staff along with her ( must be the vice principal or so ).The admissions were announced today and fortunately my daughter got through.I just thought I will share my experience with you as what I read about the NPS Indiranagar & K’mangala in the above comments were not in line with what I went through at CMR NPS.It was indeed a very nice experience.
Santosh,
Nice to know that.
I am wondering what is that they trying to judge by “interviewing” a child? I can understand intervewing a 2nd or 3rd grader.
But interviewing for Nursery/Montessori admission is not justifiable. Some schools call it “observation”.
At this age naturally kids feel insecure and may not be in a position to be smart or playing infront of strangers. Does that really mean that kid is not up to the mark ? So i feel interviewing small kids is not the right approach.. What all say?
Thanks

Hello.
We are thinking of enrolling our child at Gear Innovative International School. Can anybody suggest good, not-too-expensive places to stay near Gear school? We are open to both buying and renting.
Thanks.
Hi Chitra,
We are planning to move to Bangalore in 2010. Our 5 yr old son is currently in a Montessori here in US. He would be going to KG2 starting June.
We don’t have much knowledge about good schools in Bangalore. I would like you to throw some light on the right schools in Bangalore (both traditional & progressive) that give equal importance to academics & extra curricular activities.
I would also be interested to find out if there are any feeder schools for the best Universities in India, US, etc.
I am aware that most of the schools are done with the admission process by end of November. I was wondering if there are schools that may consider applications during Jan/Feb ?
I would like more information on the following schools - Vidyasagar, Vidyashilp, Bishop Cottons Boys, Sri Aurobindo, The Valley school, Kumaran’s, Delhi Public School North.
Please share your experience and your suggestions are most welcome.
Thank you and I sincerely appreciate your help regarding this.
-Lakshmi
Hi Lakshmi,
i know Inventure Academy wasn’t on your list, but you might want to check it out all the same. My daughter just started there in the Kindergarten. I was very impressed with the school, it’s teaching methodology, the extra- curricular activities - which might interest you are compulsory for every child with PE every day. Their results too have been outstanding - IGCSE level saw straight As, they won the adventure sports competition in the National level, they have won various inter-school sports and debate events. Participating at National level Science fairs was quite impressive too. You should probably visit them to get a clearer picture, it would be well worth it. Their site is www.inventureacademy.com
Hi Mallika,
I really appreciate your input. I feel Inventure is a little far off. But keep posting your comments on any other good school.
Thanks
Clarence Public School-J.P.Nagar is not a good school, strength per class is very high around 50. so teachers wont pay much attention to each kid. and they dont put attention during the lunch time of kids. Donation is very high more then 65,000.
Yes Patil, you are right. Clarence is very expensive school. for pre nursary kids monthly fee is more then 2500 and donation is more then 65000. class strength is high more then 45 kids per class. teachers are very strict. my thinking is even schools like bishon cottop are also fancy kind of. kids will not learn but they spoil more with their western culture. I like Montissori kind of schools. I am intrested in shantinikethan school.
Hi Chitra,
We are planning to r2i to B’lore in 2011 from Atlana in March or Apr 2011. As many of the parents here, we are also having more questions when we think about schooling in India.
Her DOB falls on July, will that cause an issue since many schools have age restrictions.
I see that some of the schools start giving out applications in Oct/Nov and some in June time frame. What is best way to approach the school since most of them require the kid to take a test and attend an “INTERVIEW”:
Last but not least, we are concerned about the syllabus also.
Thoughts ????
Reg: Cluny Convent
The fees is very nominal since it is a missionary school about 20K per annum. TMy kid studies there - the donation is voluntary since they are coming out with a College in the same campus. (Since they dont charge exhorbitant fees they would naturally depend on the one-time donation).
Hello,
Can someone please recommend couple of quality schools around marthahalli area. I am returning to Bangalore from US in May and would like to enroll my kids starting June. Thanks in advance,
-Sid

Hi All,
I am relocating to bangalore and stay at vijaynagar can any body tell which is the best school (CBSE or ICSE) in and aroung vijaynagar. my son will be 2.5Y as on June 2010.
Hi,
I have been a teacher with NPS-HSR and I think I am the first one to give such a candid comment about this school because I have observed it very closely during my stay here. This school solely thrives on the formula-Keep the parents happy!
And when are parents happy?Well, when their kids perform great in the school!
So what’s happening out there is a mere business where teachers are, in a very subtle manner, instructed to always give a very positive feedback to the parents about the performance of the children, no matter how poorly they perform. For instance, it so happened that a child from the US had sought admission in the school and performed very poorly in the Hindi exam. As a result, the concerned subject teacher was summoned and told to delete the poor grades and change them to better ones so that the parents were contended. The instructions had to be followed for sure. But, in the process, who was the loser?
Of course, the child , who in the long run would perform drastically in the Board exams.I felt that such a false image of the child should not be given to the parents, no matter what they think. Being teachers, we do not have the right to play with a child’s academic career.
In fact, both NPS Koramangala & NPS HSR branches target the IT parents’ wards and constantly terroririze the teachers to award excellent grades to the students in all their exams so that there is no attrition of students. All the questions that are set in the question paper need to be certainly revised in the class. If the question is slightly twisted & the student fails to answer that question, the teacher is reprimanded. In fact, in the present competitive world, we are spoon feeding these children of NPS. Only those students fare well, those who are in-born intelligent. The rest turn out to be mediocre ones whose higher education would be sponsored by their IT industry’s rich parents.
Is that what the parents are actually looking out for?
Besides, I have also observed that the students who are getting admission, particularly at the NPS HSR branch, are not the quality students who are great at academics! In fact, the sole condition to getting your child admitted in that school is to be working in a reputed IT company and holding a good positioni.e. your salary should range anything above Rs 20 lakh per annum. If you satisfy this condition, you can assure youself that your child will surely get through the admission process…even if he/she has slight mental disorders.
At last, if you want your child to be truly good at academics; if you want that your kid should not just get good grades because they look good to your eyes, instead know the subject in detail; if you want them to face the competitive exams after the 12th grade; then NPS HSR or Koramangala branch is not your cup of tea!
These branches are meant for all those parents who love to live in illusion and dare not confront the truth. They prefer to overlook the reality. They just see what the school wants to show them.
What is the verdict on Mallya Aditi International? Is it a well balanced school? Have heard very confusing reviews about it. So looking for some more opinions.
Thank you.
Wonderful Site! I wanted to ask if I would be able quote a portion of your pages and use a handful of things for a school assignment. Please email me whether or not its ok or not. Thanks
