To enable that I am in the process of putting together a site with the help of some of my friends who share a similar need - Zeeksha; Zeeksha provides information and reviews about schools and pre-schools in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad. I will continue to include different schools from these 4 cities now, and go on to include schools from other cities in the future. All of you ar requested to use the features and forums at Zeeksha to keep the conversation about schools going. Thank you! :)

  1. […] of the schools that I have already listed here also have pre-schools. If you know of some other good pre-schools, please let me know and I will […]

  2. Ah-ha! Good to see my school top the list under the heading “Other Convent Schools”
So, how’ve you’ve been? Here’s wishing you all the very best during the new year 2007!
    Cheers!

  3. Hi Chitra…. Just popped by when I saw this post…… The timestamp is wrong. It should have been 1st jan not feb :) You seem to be running fast dear :)

  4. nice effort!!

btw, this posts shows date as Feb 01,2007… and for rest of the world it is still Jan 2007.

    ;-)

  5. Ravi, been alright. Please check your email. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead as well.

Coffee, I have been having tons of issues with blogger. Just doesn’t let me post! And when I managed to post this, I wasn’t sure which date format I was supposed to do for Jan 2nd on blogger. Anyway, now I managed to change that. Thanks!

Rajesh, welcome to my blog. I have been a big fan of your blog, but have never manged to leave a comment ‘coz of all my Internet issues. Great job there.

  6. Thats why I shifted from blogger to wordpress!!!!! I was having a tough time there. And with my food blog on, the amount of time it used to take me to upload the pics was like!!!!!!!!! So I shifted all my posts and comments to wordpress. And now I am more than relaxed :)))

  7. An informative compilation. There are quite a number of schools here, almost in all areas. Thus it shouldn’t be difficult… I did a similar hunt when came here from Hyd in 1999.

  8. Thanks for the suggestion Coffee. Right now, I think the problem is with my Inet connection. I am comfortable with Blogger, however I will check out Wordpress.

Pradeep, that is true. There are truck loads of schools. I tried to list out a few that are really sought after, and some old convents that have been around for a while. Otherwise, every area has many varieties of schools.

  9. Went through all your posts and loved them. We , as in me and the husband keep arguing with our friends who have settled abroad on the merits of being in this country despite it’s so many apparent negatives. .. and friends feel we are really stupid to let go of good job opportunities for the life here.
But, we are happy and content.
    :)

  10. Minal, welcome to my blog. I am glad you are happy and content here. After all, that’s what matters at the end of the day. :) Also, very good job opportunities are available here now. In fact, India seems to be the most happening place in many different ways.

BTW, my intention is not to promote living here or even to relocate here. I am just penning my experiences. I loved living in Calif too.

PS: You are welcome to invite your friends to contribute their points of view in my blog.

  11. Hi Chitra,

u might want to check out this site for contact details –http://www.schoolsindia.com

Any idea on the correct age for LKG admissions. Next year my daughter will be 3yrs 8ths as on June 1st, will i have to wait for another year to admit her to LKG?

And yes, the eurokids post was very helpful.

    Cheers,
    Rashmi

  12. Rashmi, welcome to my blog. I have visited sites that list school information etc. Unfortunately, these sites are not updated and hence do not carry current contact info. I have tried to provide info that I know are correct, especially the phone numbers.

Yes, I think your daughter will be able to go to LKG only in ‘09. I am glad the Eurokids review helped. :)

  13. Hi guys,

Can sombody throw some light for pre schools in the malleshwaram ,rajajinager area for 2 1/2 yr olds.
    Thanks

  14. what about DPS East Bangalore , along Sarjapur Road?

  15. Anon, welcome to my blog. Please see my post on pre-schools. Maybe, something there will fit your needs.

Anon 2, recently my hub mentioned DPS East to me. Thanks for the reminder. Let me add it quickly to the list.

  16. Any feedback on Little Feat Montissori? Also, how does PSBB (Padma Seshadri Bal Bhavan) compare to NPS?

  17. Anon, welcome to my blog. Unfortunately, I do not have anwsers to your questions. I do not know Little Feet Montessori. Nor do I know enough about PSBB or NPS to comment. The only thing is Bangalore has had NPS for a long time and PSBB is fairly new here. NPS has done well for many years. However, PSBB has been doing well in Chennai for many years too.

  18. how accommodating are the big school are far as late admissions are concerned…we are moving into banglore only in april…do you think the schools will relent…

what’s your take on the brigade school?

  19. Welcome to my blog, Gazal. I am not sure I know Brigade school.

I know that some schools do relent and accept late admissions as long as they meet the child. Depending on where you are going to be, you can check with the schools that will work for you and your child/ren.

  20. I know that Brigade schools said the last date for accepting applications are over, but we had someone who lives there hand over our application to the school, but they will not comment further or act upon it until we show up there. We downloaded the application and sent it over to our people to give it to the school. AS far as I know they are accepting applications. But we are not sure if our kid will get admitted there.

  21. Hello Chitra,

Great Compilation - I was absolutely in the dark till I saw your website.

I live in Fremont CA, USA and am trying relocating to India for a few months to see if it will pan out.

I am relocating to Bannerghatta road close to L&T South City and am looking for a school for my child who is 3 yrs 6 months now (born Nov 1 2003).

Can he join LKG this summer - June 07? Or does he have to wait one more year?

Also, I am a resident of chennai. I need some help finding a good pre- / school. Can you suggest some schools near L&T city?

    thanks so much,
    charu

  22. Hi Chitra,

What do you think of Mark Global School?

Have you heard of this school? How is it?

    thanks,
    charu

  23. Hello All,

This is Sachin and Rachna: We have 2 year old twins who have just started to go to a play home in Indiranagar. I would like to be an active member of this blog.

  24. Charu, welcome to my blog. I am terribly sorry for having missed your comments! I am afraid your son is going to have to wait another year to join LKG. Typically they want the child to have completed 4 as of Jun 1st to start LKG.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with that area too much to suggest good pre-schools. I am afraid, I haven’t heard of Mark Global school either. Please let me know if you need any other info.

    Sachin, welcome to my blog.

  25. Hi Chitra,

Did you get my emails at all? Could you post any information you might have about dual US/India citizenship (or OCI) and any implications this might have for the kids’ education - especially higher education. I’m sure this is a concern of many R2I parents.

  26. Hi, Chitra, I am in CA Sunnyvale and I am planning to r2bangalore. I have a son needs to be in 4th grade and a daughter needs to be in ukg in the coming academic year. i applied for national public school in koramangla . They are asking us to come to india to take the entrance test. We all three can’t just travel that long for that time. My son will be having star tests here at that time. So, any suggestions how to get seats there without coming to india?

  27. Hi,
Iam new here to this blog, could you pls give me your comments on Ryan International school in bannergatta road.

    thanks for your time,

    -regards,
    Manjunath S

  28. hi,

I am looking out some good pre school on Sarjapur ORR for my son.Pls suggest …..

any feedback on India international school on ORR.

  29. Hi All

Would like to have some suggestions on NPS- HSR layout . I am confussed btw inventure academy and NPS.
NPS has a good name in bangalore but i have heard is too much on academics.
we have moved back to bangalore just 4 months back and not sure whether my 6yr daughter is ready to take the academic pressure,
any comments and suggestions from parents having their kids in NPS………………

    thanks
    Mansi

  30. hi
chitra thanks for all the blogs, info et al.me & my wife recently discovered your blog and are enjoying reading it, learning from everybody’s experiences and boosting our confidence.

we intend to r2i in may 08 and need to find a school for my son 5 yr old in hebbal/rt nagar/rmv area.dont need a fancy expensive school, any reccomendations?

does anyone have any info/opinion on daffodils english school or vidyaniketan?

    thanks

  31. I would like to get ffedback on Gear International & Vibgyor High schools. Also any idea about NPS HSR layout?

  32. Hi sathyaveni, welsome to my blog. Unfortunately, if you are particular about NPS, then I don’t think there is anyway of getting in without coming here and taking the tests.

manjunath S, welcome to my blog. I am not sure I know enough about Ryan to comment about the school.

Mansi, welcome to my blog. Inventure is a new school with fabulous infrastructure. But the school is still new. So, it will be hard to comment about the school. Also, I havent heard anything from the parents there too. However, NPS is everything that they claim to be. They deliver very fine kids at the end of 10th/12th. NPS kids are pretty all-rounded and having firm footing in academics. In fact, I happened to run into a teacher who teaches at one of the international schools in Bangalore and she couldn’t stop talking about all the NPS schools and their teachers. She only had good things to say about NPS< in general. Also, NPS parents are some of the happiest with the schools and their activities. To the best of my knowledge, there is really no pressure at age 6. I hope this helps.

Sid, welcome to my blog. Since your boy is 5 yrs old, I am guessing you ar elooking for UKG and further. Vidya Sagar in Bhoopasandra is very good, from what I hear, and the child will go to Vidya Niketan or Vidya Shilp for 1st standard. And all three schools are accessible from Bellary road. Your other options are Presidency school in RT. Nagar. ICSE syllabus. Daffodils/Florence are in Sanjaynagar and offer ICSE syllabus as well. I haven’t heard raving reviews about these 3 though. There is also Navkis school off of the ring road near BEL. Again ICSE syllabus. And of the lot the Vidya Sagar/Niketan/Shilp would win hands down! But, if you are returning only in May, it may be a little late to get school admissions considering how all the schools are pretty much done with the admission process.

What you can consider doing is to send your boy to a pre-school for UKG and try Vidya Niketan at the end of the year for next year’s first standard. Pl feel free to ask any questions. :)

Ruchi, welcome to my blog. I don’t know enough about Gear or Vibgyor to comment.

  33. Hi guys …i wud like to know which place has good schools is it somewhere nr Bansankri 6th stage or Ullal village nr Mysore Magdi road . since i hav plot in this area…i am confused which is better place to build my home. Also i am new to Blor.

    Prakash

  37. Hi Chitra,

Could you provide me any information about Geethanjali Vidyalaya school in kaggadaspura?

    Thanks

  38. Could you provide us good convent school lists in bangalore preferabaly in and around Vijayanagar ,Bangalore-40

  39. Upfront thanks to this info !

Do you have any opinion on Shindhi HIgh School ?

  40. hi,
i and kids just r2bangalore . I am intrested in frachising a branded preschool. Would u know how good is Applekids preschool in bangalore. Its salem based and have quite a few branches. Would want to know negative and positive aspects of starting a normal preschool versus being a franchisee,
Many thanks, and keep up the good work in this blog.

  41. Hi,

I am new to this blog.
I have few questions about KG and montessori admission in bangalore

    1) At what age we should start looking for admission?
Which is better montessori or KG-1 in any good school ( I guess this is LKG?)

    2) Is it better to send the kid to small montessori and then shift to a good school? I heard admission at 1st class is difficult..

    3) Should I directly admit the kid for KG-1 in any reputed school? I hope then the kid can continue his studies from 1st std onwards from the same school. so not much admission issues.

    Thanks
    ronith

  42. Raji, thanks! I am not sure I know enough about the said neighborhoods. But, I do know that Banashankari has some good schools.

Sid/Padma, I have only heard raving reviews aboit Gaia pre-school. It would be worth your while to call them and check. I think

Prakash, of late I have heard some not-so- great reviews about Ryan international. Please check the no.of students they have in each class before proceeding. If it is crowded, do think twice.

Prathi, I havent heard of the said school. Sorry.

Shashidhar, I don’t think I know of any in that neighborhood.

Sivabalan, Sindhi High School has been around for a while and would like a typical older school. So, the no.of students per class would be fairly high and the infrastructure would be about average.

A, first off all the best with your plans. Bangalore can always accommodate a good school :) I am not sure I know enough about Applekids.
Right off, I can think of a few pros and cons of starting a franchisee. Being part of a franchisee makes the running and starting of one fairly easily. Most of them help you set it up and you aso get trained teachers, I think. And it is easy for people to identify with your pre-school if they are familiar with the brand. However, that can also be a minus. What if the brand gets some bad name because of somebody else’s doing. You will have to bear the brunt too. And you have only a certain amount of say in the matter of your own school.
Starting your own will pose the initial daunting task of getting people familiar with your “name”. But, the good thing, people are ALWAYS on the lookout for a pre-school and if you setup a nice clean bright place, you will win instantly have a few customers. Then of course you must find really good people to work for/with you. People who will be kind and enthusiastic about working with young kids. But, if you are kicked about doing this and are willing to put in sincere efforts, I would think starting something on your own will eventually be a good thing.

Ronith, kindergarten and montessori are good in their own ways. Montessori if your child is more free-spirited and cannot get used to the more rigid kindergarten. But for that, I think both are good. My children have been to both and have done well in both the atmospheres.
Your child must be 3 to start montessori and 4 to start LKG (KG 1).
Some reputed schools offer you both kindergarten and montessori. So, the admission process would be a one time affair either way.
Feel free to post your questions, if you have any.

  43. Hi Chitra

My kid completes 2.3 as of June 2008. I am located in RT Ngr. I was not aware of this yearly birt admissions at sept/nov.

First I was undecided on ICSE, CBSE issue. So when I knocked the doors of Vidya Sagar (targetting Vidya Niketan) as potential school fo rmy kid, I was told that thier PreSchool admissions were closed last nov (ooops..for even pre school)

So our doors for Vidya Niketan is virutally closed ( reesponses we got - we can put u beon wait list, but done hope for anything….or try for pre - kg next year but you wont get …cause we absorb our pre school)

Then after much of debate, I decided to drop ICSE. And settle for CBSE.

So in North I dont know of any CBSE other than Sindhi High.
Are there any other CBSE options in North?

Now that I have till september to worry about it, now comes the more burning issue

Which pre school to put him in?
I dropped EuroKids option after your review (thanks). Also dropped Shemrock,FunnLearn, and numerous others based on neighbours feed back.

So I was left with VSagar & Gaia in RTNgr and few others in central area. Vsagar is out of reach. Now I need to check if Gaia is good. Do you have any feedback on Gaia?

    Thanks a Ton!

  44. Sivabalan, yes the admission process does finish up pretty early and one must practically plan one’s life around it. :)

Though, it is generally belived that if you miss out on pre-school admissions, you can’t get it later, one of my friends managed to get her son admitted into 1st std at Niketan without much of a hassle. So, there is that too.
From what I hear, Gaia is very good. And since you live in RT nagar, it kind of becomes the default choice, IMHO. I have had some extremely happy paretns who sent their wards to Gaia.
CBSE schools in North - All the kendriya vidyalayas. Hmmm, I don’t think I know of any other. Will let you know if I do find other CBSE schools.
Any reason why you decided on CBSE?

  45. Thanks Chitra!

Yes lots of KVs around. But the ones that admin the civiians are two. One in malleshwaram and the other in Yeshwantpur. The list that allows civilians is available at the KV site. Again in those 2 KVs priority is given for Central gvt emp/State gvt emp/Defence personnel/ and so on. There is a eight category which states others. And I also assume that its the order of priority. So the chance of getting into a KV is slim. And the one in Malleshwaram starts at Grade2.

Ill pen down my view of ICSE vs CBSE ( some of them my own and most of them from friends who made thier decisions on ICSE vs CBSE). Will also include the poor state syllabus :)

State Board (atleast KA & TN)
    —————————————-
:( Academic oriented. Stuffy on theory
:( Does not initiate pupils towards problem solving/thinking mode
:) Good for students targetting state entrnace exams, because the entrance is designed around this syllabus

    CBSE
    ——–
:) Lighter academic/theotical stress (comapred to State & ICSE )
:) All central exams (IIT,AIIMS) designed around this syllabus
:) Stress on maths & sciences
:) Hones the pupil towards thinking/problem solving methodology
:( Tough to switch to ICSE at higher levels

    - Atleast i have seen professionals from both CBSE & State. And by large, CBSE guys were good thinkers. If a state syllabus guy looked good, then its probably by his own merit or something he developed by himself

Also I should add that I dont know much about its neg’s

    ICSE
    ——-
:) Universally compatible. Atleast among common wealth countries. So if reloacting in the middle of school or trying for under-grad aborad, its good
:) ICSE guys can easiliy switch to CBSE
:( Heavy language loads. I dont know how to quantify it., I guess its like more of shakespeare kind of stuff. In general its like a course desgined for english speaking natives
:( Less stress and matsh & science. Again its hearsay. Dont know how to quantify
:( Syllabus not so good fit for central entrance exams
:) More atypical courses like home science, aggri, fashion design etc (http://www.icseguess.com/syllabus/syllabus_for_icse_2009.php)
:) Good for Kids creativity due to exposure to atypical courses

So why did I choose CBSE
    ———————————–
I dont want my kid to crack IIT (or AIIMS :) ). I want him to decide what he wants to do. But I think he should be a good thinker/problem solver irrepsective of what he chooses to do

Expsoure to atypical courses (in ICSE) will help him to see beyond engineering and medicine. But that can be supplemented by soft coaching from parents. Because its not that neccesary at school level. So stress on maths & science.

ALL SAID … THIS IS MY CURRENT STATE … :)

  46. Hi,

I am relocating to bangalore. My girl was born on 2 Jul 2003. Want recommendation of schools in east or south bangalore (and maybe cost of admission, if possible).

Primary information is whether it’s too late now as admissions might be closed. Any schools which can still accept kids.

Or else, do schools take transfer of kids at this level - then i can plan to delay my shifting for 3 months. In my native, my kid is getting admission in 1st class (Exception) - Don’t know Bangalore school age norms.

    Please advise.

  47. Hi, We are moving to Bngalore next month and trying for admission for my son in Vidya Sagar in RMV 2nd Stage and we are also looking for admissions in Kangaroo Kids . Please let me know how the schools are.

  48. Hi,

We are relocating to Bangalore. We are interested in NPS, Rajajinagar for our kid who would be 6 years old for the academic year 2008-09 Could somebody throw us some light on the admission test at NPS. What are the topics that the kid is tested on? Does the duration of the time taken by the candidate matter in determining the kid’s abilities?

    Thanks in advance,
    Suma

  49. Hi, Chitra,
Plz can u help me some good CBSE schools in and around malleshwaram as i am staying in malleshwaram.

  50. Thanks for your thoughts, Sivabalan. I am sure I will have to write a post about the diff boards and compare them as well.

Nupur at your child’s age, she will get into UKG in some schools and only into LKG in the others. IMHO, I think UKG would be the best fit. Unfortunately, all admission processes here are mostly complete. Lots of good schools in East and South. All the best with your move.

Suma, I do not know much about the admission tests there. The best would be for you to call the school and check.

Rajeshwari, NPS Rajajinagar would be your best bet. KV Malleswaram would be the other choice. Hope this helps.

  51. Hi, My daughter is 2 years 5 months for April, and i stay in Bangalore north. She goes for playhome nearby. Need some help regarding PreKG. when should i admit her, preferably vidyasagar and presidency school. I dont have any idea about anything. Please help me.

    Thanx Jaya

  52. Hi!
I am confused. I am not able to decide where to put my son …in KV malleswaram or KV hebbal

  53. Jaya. I stay at Blore.North

I guess yourkid is eligible for Nursery\PreKG as of this June. (some schools take 2.6, others 2.10 and 3) Pls check this point

If you kid is eligible for PreKG, you might already be late to catch the wagon.

Vidya sagar takes admission from pre-school. the admissions close by Nov. They say that they dont accept admissions in PKG/LKG/UKG. But they do take the name for waiting list. But still it would be too late now. Call them and check right now!

Sindhi High, starts from PreKG. Thier admissions close by Jan as well. But it may not be too late and you can give a try. (CBSE)

Am not aware of Presidencies position.

Btw, can you let us know where you send your kid fo rplay school and also your expereince at this play school.
    Tks

  54. Raji
    Are you serious about KV?

KV malleshwaram starts from 2 std and KV hebbal from 1 std. You can visit thier site to get all info you want.

Are you aware that the public quota in KV’s are too small ( around 5% ). You can see that by yourself at KV hebbals site.

However if you fall into the priority category its a differnt story.
Also I heard from a friend, that even for publics, recommendation from high Army officers is required. Note it is not mandatory, but only that can get you into the public quota for KV (from a reliable friend). Also there is foul play in this recommendation. (like bribery etc…so no need to get worked up). Its just that you need to know some one very high up in the defense services…

Let me know if you have other info

  55. CORRECTION on previous post

what i meant to say is
Also there is ** NO **foul play in this recommendation. ie no bribary involved, ..but just should know someone higher up

  56. Jaya, like Sivabalan said you are a little late for admissions in VidyaSagar. Typically schools finish with their admission process in Nov/Dec. Please check out this post on Gaia in RT Nagar. I think it is worth a try. http://r2blore.chitra-aiyer.com/2008/03/gaia-preschool-and-childcare-center.html
    All the best.

Raji, I do not enough to have an opinion. I hope Sivabalan’s response helps you. :)

Sivabalan, many thanks! :) Thanks for your time and your willingness to help others. :)

  57. Thanx a lot Sivabalan n Chitra for helping me. I did call Vidya Sagar and have enrolled her name, but as u said, the admissions were over and they said, if any kid drops out, will consider urs, but not sure. I will try Gaia and Sindhi as recommended by u. Again i really appreciate, Sivabalan, taking time and ur willingness to help :) I will keep updating about my decision.

    Thanx Jaya

  58. Chitra, Jaya
    Please dont mention it.
Honestly I was confounded to find out that in this info age, there are very meagre or no info on net for bangalore schools. I was not able to get a site that would give feed back.
And luckily I found that Chitra’s blog is one great source of information (honestly).

  61. Hi Chitra,

I came across your blog looking for good schools in Bangalore. Thanks a lot for this compiled list. I am adding the same in my forum to help other members. You are welcome to join my Inidan parenting Forum at http://parentingforum.kidsandbibs.in

  62. Actually it,s very late in admision procedure in case of my son because of transfer problem so private schools were closed it before 2 months ago and public schools too but i want send my son in CBSE school for LKG if any body having any ideas please contact “kundakasurde@gmail.com”

  63. Hi Chitra,
I really loved all the information on this blog!!!
We r moving back to Blore in June and really excited abt it!
I wanted to know if u have some inputs on Gear School near Sarjapur , my kids will be joining this school in july.
    Thanks for all the info!!

    ajitha:)

  64. Hi Chitra,

Thanks for all the good information. I have the following scenario and questions. If you or anyone answer to these, it will be a great help. Please reply even if it something to suggest.

My son is born in Dec 2004, so I believe he will be eligible to go to 1st grade in 2011 (pls. correct me if I am wrong!). We plan to return to India (Bangalore) when he starts his 1st grade. We don’t know which area in Bangalore we will be living, but we would want to put him into a school nearby where we live. Now my questions are:

    1. Is it any easier getting admission if we return one year early for his UKG? Or is it the same? We are thinking we probably want to put him into a school which has at least up to 10th grade (or good if available up to 12th grade)
    2. How many months in advance or which month of 2010/11 we should plan on returning? Of course, we and my son as well need time to settle down, so I am sure we would want to have some 2-3 months time before school starts. But what about the admission? Can we secure it from here? If we return too early, I am thinking he will miss his KG class.
    3. This year (2008) end we will be visiting India. Is there any chance of securing his admission for 1st grade (commencing in 2011) in any school? I am thinking… in case if we settle on some area where we will be living.

I may be doing some business or something from home, but my husband would be looking for a job. Ideally we would like to have his workplace, our son’s school and our residence (renting to begin with) all nearby. But nothing will be known in advance… though we know we want to return then for sure, we can’t plan anything… I go nuts thinking about this (At least we know we want to return to Bangalore!) Any suggestions for planning purpose???

    Thanks so much.
    Uma

  65. Hello,

Does anyone have an opinion about Lord Krishna International School in Banashankari? I heard some good reviews from (biased) folks but curious if anyone has a view..

    Thanks!

  66. Hello Chitra, I came across your blog looking for good schools in Bangalore. Thanks a lot for this compiled list, it is quite helpful.
We plan to move to Bangalore in May 09. My daughter will be 4 years and 9 months next June (09). I believe she will have to go to LKG. Is that right? or can she get admission in UKG?
She goes to Montessori here in US.

Also can you please tell me when do the admissions for kindergarten start and when do they end?

    Thanks
    Manjushree

  67. Hi,

Could someone tell me about Inventure academy. How good is this school both from academic/ personality development perspective?. The Fee structure seems to be at higher end ( more than 1 lakh starting from KG-1). Really want to know is it worth paying such high fees?

  68. Dear Shivabalan
thank you…. i ut my son in KV hebbal…. i feel u can get admission easily without any reference… anyway i got it becos my husband was in the army (oficer)….. i just wanted to know… where to ut him….

  69. Hi,

My son is 2 years 8 months old and I am looking for a montessori in Indiranagar and HAL 2nd stage. I have zeroed in on “Prarambha Montessori” as I got a good feedback from one of the parents. Anyone having any info on that play home, can be please mail it to me?

  70. hi everybody,
Can anybody help in the following queries. I have 2 daughters one in 2nd std npw and another in kg2. Next year i am planning to relocate to blore sanjaynagar area. Right now they are in cbse syallbus. Can i change to icse? If so i am terribly confused. Can anyone help in giving feedback about the schools around including daffodils and the school results… they are born on 11th september 2001 and 29th september 2003 respectively. Can u please give me a feedback on this? thanks in advance

  71. Dear Chitra,
We are returning to India, Mumbai this August and I am really in intense dilemma. I do not know which board to choose from IGCSE, CBSE,ICSE,IB,etc,. for my child who will be going to Grade 4. The Indian system of studies will be new for him. He is not used to mugging and wrting too much rather a practical approach is used here for teaching. All the more i know he won’t be happy to read and write Hindi since he hasn’t learnt it from childhood. I am really puzzled what to do? Which school to choose? I won’t like him to end up muging lessons rather would like him to learn concepts and technicalities more.

  72. Hi folks, firstly I havent been able to respond to the comments because we have been very busy this summer.

So, here goes. Better late than never. :)

Jaya, good to know that some of the recos from here helped. Let us know when your daughter gets an admission.

Sivabalan, many thanks! :) I will email you about the other schools that you have info on. Stragnely enough, I am seeing this comment of yours only now!

    You are welcime, Asha. :)

Kunda, all NPSes and DPSes are CBSE schools that also offer LKG. Yes, it is very late now for admissions. Do let us know if anything worked out for you.

Yes, Uma, your son will go to 1st std in 2011. Admissions are the easiest for LKG when all seats are available. After that, the seats are available according to differnet criteria, like some children leaving the school and hence creating openings etc. The next stage would be at standard 1, when some schools open up more sections creating more seats. So, if he starts 1st std in 2011, then oct 2010 is when u can start trying for admissions. And by then, maybe you will have a better idea about where you are going to be. The admissions process is exclusive to each school and one cannot arrive at a typical process that will apply to all schools. So, what I suggest is when you know the area you are going to be in, you can ask your friends/relatives here to scout for good schools and them to buy forms from those schools. You can then call the schools up and talk to them to see how they can go about with your son’s admission. Doing that in 2008 maybe impossible. Since, schools tend to do only admissions for the next academic year.
And as far as going ‘nuts’, don’t worry. Typically, things tend to fall in place. It is when a lot of the parameters are ambiguous that it gets to be mind-boggling. But, over a period of time, when you get clarity about some of the parameters, everything will become easier. :) Chin up. :)

Resin, nope no input from my side. I dont know the school.

Manjushree, yes looks like LKG will be a good fit for her. Admissions will be from this Oct. You can ask your friends/relatives here to look for good schools and ask them to buy forms from those schools. It is very likely that they can scan the forms and send them to you and you can fill them up and send it to the schools.

Ronith, I have heard good things about Inventure Academy. It is a new school, so you do not have a track record to go by. But, the parents who send their kids there seem to be happy and I have seen the campus. It is pretty good. Just that it is pretty far from the city.

Raji, good to know. :) And thanks for keeping us posted.

Jyothi, I do not know of Prarambha. I hope you got reviews from folks who send their kids there.

Poornima, most of the schools in the sanjaynagar neighboorhood are ICSE schools. The only CBSE schools would be the NPS in Rajajinagar and the KV schools in Hebbal, Mekhri circle, and Malleswaram. Your kids are still young and I think moving into ICSE may not be too much of a problem. The ICSE schools that are in Sanjaynagar are alright. Not great, but not bad. Hope this helps.

Niti, since your child is slightly older and since he has already gone to school in the US, IB or IGCSE would be a better option. But the best thing would be for you to check with parents in Mumbai about schools there and ask them for their opinions. These days, a lot of the good schools in India too use differnet approaches to teach instead of asking kids to do by rote. Going to ICSe or CBSE will require him to learn an Indian language and come upto speed with the rest of the class. You are likely to not have this issue with and IB/IGCSE school syllabus. And in IGCSE schools, he may feel at home, since the syllabus is like in the US schools.

  73. Dear ma’m,

I am just now saw your blog. Please permit me to join with u.

My daughter is now in Ist Std (promoted from UKG under montessori scheme). In her school both montessori and CBSE schemes are available for Ist std.

Her teacher says montessori is a little bit ahead of CBSE.

Please enlighten me which is better?

  74. Hi Chitra,

My 5 year son goes to Ryan now and is in Mont 3. I also have a 3 year old son who goes to Kidzee now. I am not too happy with Ryan and am planning to put him in a better school next year. We stay on the K.R Puram Marathahalli outer ring road. Do you know of shcools which are in that area and which would accept students to 1st standard next year.

    Thanks in advance
    Elizabeth

  75. I got my son admitted in Vidyasagar in play group. After the very first day at school I decided to not send him there any more. They made my 2.5 year old son stand in front of the urinal and left him there. He was confused as to what he should do since we have trained him in sitting position on a potty. He thought it was a sink of some sort and started touching all over. The urinal had no flush, no water and very poor drainage. And to top it all off, they did not use soap to wash his hands after that! After asking around, I found out that they don’t provide soap to wash hands after the kids have used the bathroom!

This was such a basic sanitation measure that I did not bother to ask about it from other kids who go to Vidyasagar and their parents before deciding to put him there. Now I know better.

If you child is going to Vidyasagar and falling sick regularly, THIS is the reason! In fact other parents told us that we should be prepared for this. I though to myself, how pathetic! Instead of doing something to get the problem solved or pulling their children out of such disgustingly unhygenic environment, the parents just “put up” with this?

  76. Hi,

Could someone provide feedback about GEAR Innovative international school in Sarjapur road?
    Sincere feedback is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    ronith

  77. hi, i have a boy who is 1.10 yrs old.i’m looking for a good school around banaswadi-indiranagar-hebbal area for nursery for the next academic yr.i’ve been told that my son is invariably gonna loose a yr as he is aug born.could someone please help me in selecting the right school for him.we have thought of clarence, shishugriha&vidyanikethan.thanks in advance.

  78. Ramkumar, well, that is a tough one since the 2 systems are very different. Does the school have the montessori syllabus till the 10th? Or do they dis-continue after reaching a certain standard?

Elizabath, I am not too sure if I know of schools in that stretch of ring road. But I do know of Gear which is on ORR b/n Marathhalli and Sarjapur road. I cant really recommend it since I do not know enough about the school.

Amit, sorry to hear about your experience. I hope you found another school for your toddler. All the best with everything.

Ronit, Gear is on ORR b/n Marathhalli and Sarjapur road. But I do not know wnough to say anything concrete about the school.

Rashmi, Of the ones you have on the list, I have heard very good reviews from parents whose children go to Sishugriha. Definitely try for admissions there. You can also try the montessori at NPS Indirangar. Hope this helps.

  79. Hi,

Would like to get feedback on DPS East, Srjapur Road. How is DPS schools in general? Thanks

  80. Hi Chitra,

It was informative reading your posts. I am a parent of a 7 year old boy who is moving from the US to Blr. I will be in Koramangala and want to place my son in a school which is:
    - academically oriented but doesnt teach by rote method. They allow the child to think and use logic and reasoning as well.
    - focuses on sports and other curricular activities as well as academics
    - gives my child a good grounded education (surrounded by average middle class students) where he fits in (understands the value of money and doesnt take it for granted)

Do you know of any school in Bangalore where I can get all these three?

    Thank you for your time
    Kavita

  81. Ronith, DPS East is a new school and if I am not wrong, they started this year. I have heard fairly good reviews about the DPS schools from parents whose children go to DPS North.

Kavita. I am glad the posts are informative. To answer your question, I do not know of any school that will satisfy all your criteria. Schools that do not teach by rote are all mostly the more expensive schools. The expense automatically keeps the average middle class students out.
That said, in Koramangala neighborhood, the school that would satisfy the first 2 criteria is the NPS (Koramangala). Definitely academically oriented, they do not teach by rote, and focus on extra curricular activities as well. The average fees per annum is about Rs. 65, 000/-. The school is very sought after and comes with very good reviews. Admissions are very hard to get. Your son will be eligible for Std 2. Definitely call the school and talk to them.

  82. Thanks much, Chitra! Appreciate it.

  83. Hi Chitra…u r doing gr8 work by giving info thro ur blog which is so usefull for all parents thank -u so much to u n others too who post their info on various school.
Well i wud like to know about Vidya Niketan School (nr Ambedkar Engg.college Kengeri) after Blor university ,how abt extra curricular activities and also wether it is ICSE or CBSE based. Looking forward for reply…thanks in advance

  84. hi chitra, just happened to come across ur blog when i googled abt the schools at bangalore. u have given a lot of info regarding schools. presently we r in US n we r coming back next week for good. we were here for 1 and half year and i did not send my son to any schools. He is now 3 and half years old. I had taken an admission for him last year before leaving US in Ryan International School at bannerghatta rd which is a newer branch. Dont know much about the school, but then blindly admitted him there since its a school from st.xaviers group which is doing really very well in north India and also maharashtra.. when i saw the reviews of the school at bangalore, i felt bad. presently i dont have any choice so i planned to send him to that school. next year iam planning to shift to rajarajeshwarinagar. i some how started liking NPS because of the academics. is the national hill view public school at rajarajeshwarinagar the other branch of NPS?? they also have baldwins school and mount carmel school at rajarajeshwari nagar. which one do you say is better? NPS, baldwins or mountcarmel. iam not able to decide and we have to take this decision by couple of months since the applications will be closed by october end for next academic year. it seems i have heard they are already giving applications for next year. pl advice

  85. Kavitha, you are welcome. :)

Reji, I know only the Vidya Niketan near Hebbal. I am not familiar with the one near Ambedkar Engg College.

Vidyashree, your best bet is the National Hill View School. I know one mother who had done enough research about the schools in that neighborhood and was very happy with the Hill View and chose that for her son for kindergarten. I havent been to the campus myself, but apparently the campus is also very nice. Applications are typically given out only in October. Not in Jun. Your son will be eligible for LKG starting in 09.
I am not very sure about the Hill View school being under the NPS management. There are some schools that have the NPS tag and may have the NPS management on a consulting basis, but may not really come under the management. The NPS management itself only claims to have these under its management - the NPSes at Rajajinagar, Indiranagar, Koramangala, HSR Layout, and the ones in Chennai and Singapore. NAFL and TISB are also in the NPS family.

  86. ramkumar which school does your child go to?

rashmi i am with u..my son is aug born too adn he has to lose a yr cos of it..short of just a month!!(they take in at 1 yr 10 months..

am lookin for gud schools too around indiranagar area..as we stay on old madras road..i guess banaswadi would also be gud

  87. Hi,

This blog has been good with all the comments and questions..

I have a kid who is going to be 2 years in Jan 2009. I have few questions which has been bothering for a long time.

    1. What is the difference between pre-schoold and montessori. I guess it is the same.
    2. Can i “TRY” to get my kid admitted in NPS for next year June 2009, when she would be 2.5 years then.
    3. When does NPS/Shishu Griha normally give away the application forms?
    4. Is there any kind of test for Montessori admission in the above mentioned schools..
    5. What is the admission process.

    Please help..

    Thank you so much!!

  88. Hi Chitra,

One more question is my Kid is born in Jan. most of the schools say the kid shd be 3 by June. In my kids case, it would be 3.5 by June. Will they still allow admission? I just want to be quite clear on the age specifics.. Hence, the concern..

    If anybody could clarify..

    thanks!

  89. yes i think u shudnt have any probs gettin admission..
your kid would be in nursery..acc to her age

  90. SN ..replyin to ur earlier post where u said ur kid would be 2.5 in june 2009…i dont think NPS would take in..am not sure..i think they take from 3+..

would be helpful if someone cud answer that qn. cos my son would be 2.9 months in june(he is aug born) and was woderin if NPS would mke a little consideration..am thinkin of admittin my older one to UKG around the same time..right now he is goin to LKG in another Preschool

  91. Hi Chitra ,

Can you help me find out reviews about India International school , on Outer ring road. They have a preschool also near Intel on ORR and Main school on Sarjapur side. This will be a great help. Thanks
    Swati
    myamusingmind@gmail.com

  92. Mush, NPS Indiranagar, SishuGriha, NPS Koramangala would be good choices for you. Also, at NPS, they are not strict about the cut-off date.

SN, No interviews/tests at NPS, Sishugriha for that age. Since your child will be 2.5 yrs old, you can try for Montessori both at Sishu Griha and NPS. There is a diff b/n Montessori and Pre-k. The age-group for joining is the same. But pre-k kids go to kindergarten where as Montessori kids stay on for 3 years in montessori and then go to first std without going to kindergarten. The teaching methodology at montessori is unique and more hands-on. Not very formal. Works better for the free-spirited children who may not do well in a table+chair+uniform atmosphere at that age.
Please remember at 5+ yrs of age, she will be one of the youngest in her class for 1st std. If I were you, I would put her in kindergarten in 2011 when she will be 4+ or try for montessori in 2010 when she will start montessori at 3+ yrs. Being the youngest doesnt matter too much till about the 6th std, but when the pressure builds up later on, it maybe hard on her. Just my 2 cents. Schools typically start giving forms in Oct/Nov. You must keep chking with the schools tho’.

Swati, I have heard good reviews about India international from one parent. I do not know much about the school. The location of the main campus is a little far off. Have you been to the main campus? If not, please go to get an idea of the location.

  96. hi chitra, thankyou for ur time &help.iwanted some honest reviews abt vidyashilp, as im considering btw vidyashilp &shishugrugha.( clarence is out for me coz of its strength per class)

  97. Hi Chitra

I have been following your posts regarding blore schools. We will be relocating to blore sometime next jan/feb..I have a 5 yr and a 2 yr old. Do you have any info on schools in jp nagar/jayanagar area? As of now, planning to apply in kumarans..i know the admission process starts in nov/dec for most schools. Do they require to see the kid in person before giving admission?

  98. Hi CHitra,

I’ve been going through these posts & they are very informative. Thanks!!!
We will be relocating to India by last week of July 08. My son is Aug born & will be 3 Yrs 9 & 1/2 months by Jun 1. I am interested in putting him to Jyothi KV or Kumarn’s. COuld you please give me the honest feedback on these schools.
And also are schools generally accomadative if we
return after the admissions are over?
Will there be any written test for him for LKG??

    Eagerly waiting for ur reply.

    Regards,
    Gayatri

  99. Hi Chitra, tremendous help from your website. It’s really informative. Please help me with some good schools in South Bangalore. Basically I want to choose from DPS, NPS, NHVPS and any other simlar school. Do you haev an idea about the fee structure for LKG and above at these schools?

  100. Manupriya, while admissions into NPS Indirangar are not easy, you can definitely give it a shot. No harm there. :) We know of one family where the 2 children go to CMR NPS and they are happy with the school. That’s about all I know.
Bethany is an older school. So, it is more typical - in the sense with the no.of students per class being in the 40s or so, I think.
Sishu Griha would be your other option.

Mush, yeah, defnitely try NPS. :)

Ramaiah, I don’t enough about either. SOrry.

Rashmi, both your options are good. Vidyashilp is more new-age international kind of school. Sishugriha is a montessori. The 2 aren’t really comparable, both good in their own ways.

Arathi, typically schools meet with the family during the admission process. But I don’t know if that is a must. You can call the school to chk.

Gayatri, typically schools arent accomodative after the admission process is over. Don’t know anything about Jyothi KV. Kumaran’s - parents are happy with in general. I don’t know of any schools that conduct tests for LKG, but there could be some.

Prithvi, I think all your choices are pretty good overall. I think trying in all of them maybe the wise thing to do. :) For LKG, if I am not wrong, NHVPS is about 40k per annum, about 65k in NPS, and about 80+k in DPS. These are just ballpark numbers to give you an idea.

  101. Chitra,

I want to know about the standard 5 syllabus for CBSE schools especially NPS, Indira Nagar. Please let me know the same. I also want to know whether I can get the admission for standard 5 for my son after completion of my first term in CBSE in different school in another state?

    Thanks and regards,

  102. thank you chitra, keep up the good work!

  103. Hello Mush

We live in the DRDO complex and my son goes to a Preschool cum Daycare called Mother Montessori

Yeah I’ll also be trying for admission in NPS Indiranagar in October

    Hi Chitra

    This is a bit urgent
My son got admission in Nursery in DPS East in Sarjapur
Thru the ring road it takes around an hour to get there
I have only one day to decide if my 3.5 yr old son can cope with all this travelling from CV Raman Nagar to Sarjapur
Is it ok to make such a young child travel so far
I found the school to be good

  104. Manupriya, are you going to be moving to anywhere near Sarjapur? If not, I would think you can give it a miss. There are lots of good schools in the CV Raman Nagar/Indiranagar neighborhood. All the best. :)

  105. Hi chitra
Came across ur blog…really good work.keep it up..I m moving to bangalore in 2 months’ time..could u suggest some good schools near banashakari/Jayanager/J.pnagar for my 3 and 1/2 year old kid…

  106. Also How good is sreekumaran’s school?

  107. Thanks Chitra…….

Just to let you know the actual fees I heard from a few of my friends today who send their kids that it’s 50-52k in NHVPS (for LKG), 40-43k in DPS South.

  108. Thanks Prithvi. I heard the NHVPS figure from a mom whose child started Pre-k there last year. Maybe they hiked that much this year? Don’t know.
And the DPS figure was from a mom whose child has been going to the Kindergarten at DPS North.
I am not surprised at the NHVPS figure, but I am about the DPS figure. I will call around to check. I assumed the north and the south branches would be priced the same. I guess I went wrong there. I shouldn’t have, since NPS’ fees vary depending on the branches.

  109. Hi Chitra,

Thank you for ur time &help. I think your blog is extremely useful. Keep up the good work!!

My child is 18 months and I was thinking of putting him in Little Feat, Koramangala. Do you have any feedback on this?

    Thanks!!

  110. Hi Chitra,

On the same topic, what can you give me on National Public School and St. Josephs boys HIgh School. It is one of the oldest schools and used to have a good name in education. Where does it stand now? Nay reviews/feedback?

What would you suggest…Enrolling my son in montessori for a year and a half and then going for LKG at the age of four to a school…or let him be in a playhome till 4 and then enroll him?

  111. Chitra,

Reg the DPS South fees, though it is 40-43k pre year, the first year admission fees (including tution) was around 90k for my friend. May be you have heard a similar number but that’s only for 1st year. It would have dropped from the subsequent year. Anyway, please check from your sources and confirm.
And as you said, NHVPS hikes a bit more every year I feel compared to others. Last month’s admission to Pre-K for my friend’s daughter was 51.5K and he told me next year it would be around 54K…..looks like they are trying to stay with the inflation….not a good thing!

  112. Hello Chitra,
I am thinking of moving to Bangalore (to Marathalli) soon. I have a 7 year old daughter. I was interested in some good schools near there. ( As yet dont know the merits of different systems like CBSE, ICSE or State). But if someone konws about good schools in that area, can they please post it here. It would be nice if they could post it in the order of preference (numbering from 1 to 10 or so). This I understand is just the “poster’s” opinion, but will help us to decide on the same. Thanks in advance.

  113. There is an article I have written on schools boards, the differences between them and some schools in Bangalore which has been published in teh online magazien Citizen Matters. You can read the article here: http://bangalore.citizenmatters.in/articles/view/319-school-boards

    Thanks.

    Meera

  115. Hi Chitra,

Thanks for your response. Greatly appreciate your inputs..

I did check out on few schools as Euro Kids Indiranagar, yet to check on Neev. Generally, the age cut off is from 2.5 years for toddler schools.
Am quite confused as to if we should go ahead and put my kid (who is now, 1year 8 months) when she turns 2.5 years into a play school such as Eurokids/Neev . And to get her into mainstream schools such as NPS or Shishu Griha, after a year when she would be 3.5 (in June of the subsequent academic year).

My questions : 1. Is it worthy to send a kid to a play school for one year.
    2. Will we stand a chance in NPS/Shishu Griha when she would be 3.5 by that time (as they are too keen on age cut off).

    Your thoughts please…

    Many Thanks..

  116. Hi Chitra,

Came across your blog, very informative!

My question…My daughter will be 3.8 years by May of next year, should I be trying for montessori or KG-1 in NPS? .. since I hear a lot about their emphasis on age.

And, do you have any tips for getting admission to NPS? :-) .. anything that we could possibly take care of or is it pure luck?

    Thanks.

  117. …Also need some feedback on Freedom International School in HSR Layout.

  118. Hello Chitra,
Could you give some information about Frank Anthony School? I have heard it is very good, but very much academically oriented and difficult to get in. Also the competition is too much?
How would you compare it with NPS and DPS?

    Thanks

  119. My kid is 4+; just turned 4 in August. I know this platform is not for answering this question .. but each one one of you might have thought around this some point of time.”Is it neccessary ro relocate just for hte sake of my kids schooling is it so rigid … what is the pros and cons of going going to Bangalore/India when she is in say 3 rd grade here… Iam plaaning to teach her the books for CBSE for the 1st and 2nd std…. but donno how far this is possible for us…..”; I am in California and she is going to Montessori here.. would it be very difficult to get into CBSE School in another 2/ 3 years .. by then she would be 6/7 years old.. I am just asking out of mind .. to you moms .. what would be right for me to do .. I may end up doing this .. but how good or bad is it for my kid .. and schooling :-) *******

    Thanks in advance

  120. zekha, it’s purely a personal choice to decide when to move back but based on what I have seen largely, people are too concerned that if they do not R2I before the age of 4-5 years, it’s going to be very tough for the kid to get adjusted to the study load and the school environment. Another big issue at a later stage would be to get admission to schools of your choice as they would be running almost full from class-1 onwards.

  121. Zekha - I agree with Prithivi. The big factors are getting admission in the “right” schools. In general you have a good chance of getting into the good schools at the Kindrgarten (or Montessori level). But after that the number of dropouts per grade is rather less (may be 1 or 2 per year). As you can imagine the number of people wanting that slot is quite many. So - yeah - it is a lot easier to get an admission into a good (rather established) school easily.

The second point is about the rigor in the curriculum. More than that - the “second language” factor. What if you have to take one of the regional languages as the second language? Then that ads an entirely new dimension to the problem.

    Hope that helps.

  122. hi does anyone kno when the admissions forms for schools like shishu griha and other reputed schools start getting issued

  123. hi anyone there???? could someone give a list of good schools in outer ring road/marathahalli/ HAL etc

  124. Hi Chitra,

  125. Hi Chitra,
Could you let me know when the admission forms for the pre KG are distributed in Vidya Sagar and DPS north? Is it mandatory that both parents need to be present for interview [my wife may not be able to go due to medical reasons]? Are the admission process over by end of November?

    Thanks
